Take 5 - The Waterpossums

My first recording on my new Tascam 8 track digital recorder. Not quite sure what I'm doing but I still had a blast. A novel idea, first takes on each track.

Walk Away Renee

The Nazz!  1967.  It was probably my Brother who first played it for me.  Psychedelic Rock.  The album cover copied the Beatles first US album cover - 4 half shaded faces.  The record itself was pressed with red vinyl.  The guitar player and songwriter for the band?  Todd Rundgren.  I think you had to be listening to 1967 WNEW out of New York City to have the best chance of hearing this song, but that's a guess.  Only people my age from the Tri-State area seem to know it.  This is my take on it.

Open My Eyes

Recently, I got to experience one of my favorite singers, Gino Vannelli, in concert. This inspired me to recreate one of his soul driven tunes, “Valleys of Valhalla,” from his album, A Pauper In Paradise, which came before Brother to Brother. Normally I rarely cover songs by my favorite singers, because the original recording is so amazing. However, I wanted to give this song a try.

This will also be the last thing I’m recording on my old equipment, which include the program Cakewalk Sonar. I’ll be transitioning to a Mac computer, with an easier recording platform called Reaper, where I can access virtual sound libraries independently, so I won’t have to rely on sighted assistance. It’s going to make my work flow easier, especially when it comes to creating drum sounds, etc. But that’s another story for the future.
