Synths, field recordings, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, flute and composition by Aboutface.

°s is inspired by patterns in urban nature: language; behaviour; seasons, and along with the poem, explores the cyclical psychological peaks and troughs experienced during a pandemic. Live multi-instrumental improvisations apply the fibonacci sequence to create melodies and rhythms that mimic fractal patterns in nature, and are situated within binaural field recordings captured during essential travel in the first pandemic lockdown.

o: how have you been sleeping lately?
s: unpredictably. sometimes i sleep and wake up with the hazy memory of a glorious adventure, other days I wake with the horror of a nightmare clinging to my subconscious, and sometimes I can’t sleep at all...

o: are you a daydreamer or night swimmer?
s: always both ~ swimming in the daydreams, dreaming in the night swims.

o: where do you go to dream?
s: music is my portal to the dreamland. drone for the deepest cerebral dissolution into the realm of the imagination, something more energetic or colourful if I want to fly through the sky.

o: what was the last thing you heard that moved you?
s: the rustling leaves of trees in the wind, and birds calling to each other on a walk this morning.

o: have you ever cried on the dance floor?
s: yes, though not often, I’m more of “cry on the inside” dancer. 
though, the first time i remember actually crying on the dance floor was the first time i heard claro intelecto’s ‘peace of mind’ in 2013 i think… it was in my head for weeks afterwards https://youtu.be/m0-iideGM_k

o: where did you record this mix? 
s: in my living room, with my favourite cedar incense burning (i burn this every time I record a mix, a little ritual which always brings me to the right zone).

o: what drew you to the sounds?
s: you my bb <3 
this mix is my interpretation of all our beautiful sobcore listening sessions in your room after nights out, our shared love of soft emotional music, and how that translates into my sound. it’s sobcore x deep mind music, a journey for deep feelings, philosophical chats, cosy cuddles and imaginal drifting ~

o: what are you looking forward to the most this year?
s: i am most excited for the summer months to finally arrive, so I can once again frolic with friends in nature, listening to music outside 🤸🌲🌞

a. Hi I’m Kelsey and I’m currently residing in Philadelphia, USA.

q. is there a story behind the mix?
a. Story behind this mix was to try and meld more pop/trap north American contemporary ambient music I’ve been vibing with alongside a bit of a folk/dubient twist. I just wanted to try something new. My favorite style of ambient mixing is the textured notes melded with pretty variants. I don’t like things to stay the same for too long in mixes. It’s a journey and I want to take you with me through my mind.

q. what's the best way to enjoy your mix?
a. The best way to enjoy my mix is anywhere really. My hope is that it takes you somewhere new or allows you to zone out peacefully.

q. describe a favorite object in your living room...
a. I’m not home in my living room currently but when I am home my favorite item is my lava lamp my friend Rory gave me for my birthday 3 years ago. It’s very trippy.

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
a. I’m working on a lot of music and have some promising things lined up. Id say watch out for them this fall and early-mid next year. ( :

q. is there a story behind the mix?
a. it always starts with a few pieces that capture a particular mood or have a distinctive sonic quality that makes me want to build a whole hour of music around. i’m mostly interested in the emotional response that inevitably comes with listening and less so in the production as such. i like to take my time so each mix ends up soundtracking at least a month of my life. here the spoken word bits set the scene, instrumental pieces then try to accentuate and expand on that theme, take it further or in another direction all together. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?
a. i mostly record mixes with the idea of home listening since it’s my favourite way to enjoy music. it’s an evening listen rather than morning for this one.

q. describe a favourite object in your living room...
a. a burkhard vogtherr hombre chair that i got off etsy for £70. My favourite thing to sit on and to look at. 

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
a. yes and no. we’re still working on some bits for the recent 3XL/Utter record like physical copies and a video. other than that i’m doing things at a much slower pace, exchanging stems but nothing that i myself plan on showing.
