As we dive back into this altered state of what we once knew as reality, I think it's important to just stop what you’re doing and just take a minute to check yourself. This is that minute, this is that hour you should take to reassess, you owe it to yourself. This little respite for the soul comes courtesy of Naarm local, rev lon. A local future legend and a driving force behind party/podcast slingers Slow Burn (!!TIP!!), a gifted selector, playlist co-ordinator, dance floor director, the list goes on. Get to know her, you won’t regret it. 
 
The mix is absolutely sublime, relaxation at gunpoint, I implore you to press play and switch everything else off, and hopefully, your brain will follow. This is a forced restart *insert windows startup music*, embrace every bit of it. It’s what imagine clouds sound like, so soft and freely flowing, not exactly going anywhere but always moving, infinite shapes and sizes, some carry rain the others carry your imagination. This year is off and running! (Please slow down), alas, let us dive into another offering from the audible gods, this time we’re joined by local legend Ryan Berkeley. This busybody is across every iteration of the music scene in Naarm; with fingers in all the good pies. From Hopkins Creek (great music festival), and The Love Above (fantastic record label and sick parties), to dj’ing, producing, and playing live, as well as drumming in the band ‘Plastic’. He’s a nice guy to boot (and great in the kitchen). His continuous support for the scene hasn’t gone unnoticed and the trajectory he’s on will take him to the stars at least. All of the above disciplines shine through in this incredibly innate musical resume. 

Layers on layers, on layers. Fluctuating soundscapes are strategically interwoven to produce this galactic tapestry. The blending of ideas and concepts throughout the mix is sublime as we hear Berkeley fully flexing his musical knowledge across genres. Spaced out funk, minimalist proto pop, mod classical ambient, future folk, peppery street soul, and even some MF Doom (RIP) materialise in rhythmic waves, slowly and hypnotically crashing against a phantasmic shore. A feel-good affair from start to finish which perfectly embodies Berkeley's musical ideals.

As we delve straight into neo-reality it's very important to check your peripherals and adjust your trajectory. There is such a thing as coming in too hot, too hard, and too fast. After our last slice of respite and relaxation, it’s now time to pick up the pieces and start moving forward again, and I’ve got just the soundtrack for it. It's with great pleasure that I offer you #49 of this collection of thoughts, this one comes courtesy of Eric Filipus, straight from Helsinki. The Finnish finesser, spread’s his talent throughout all avenues of the audible world, whether it is Dj’ing, curating, or through local radio IDA (TIP! / link below). This is a perfect opportunity to flex the other side of his record collection. 

Brimming with galactic ideals and emotions, a poetic collection of thoughts. If you close your eyes you can actually picture a scene to match every song. A multifaceted rough cut diamond, equal parts chaos and harmony, unabridged hope, and a deep understanding of melancholy. Overall it perfectly sums up the year we’ve had and potentially the year we’re yet to have. Perfectly laced foreign folk, video game nostalgia (I’ve been waiting years for that Donkey kong drip), otherworldly neo-pop, future jazz, avant-rock, sprinkled with some Finnish masterpieces, it's all here, the trip we all need without leaving your own little bubble, wherever you are in the world. The perfect mixtape to end the year.
