From 'V Classic' to 'Planet V' and beyond, the V Recordings camp have been scene leaders in creating era-defining, zeitgeist-capturing compilations. And, following on from the retrospective 'Foundation' project, it's now time for another chapter in the story - 'Future'

Bryan Gee, widely known as one of the most influential selectors and A&R men in the business, has taken his time to compile and curate something that's more than just another album. This is Bryan's personal vision of what's to come, not only for the V brand, but for Drum & Bass music as a whole.
Never swayed by fashions, fads and sub-genre divisions, Bryan and Jumpin Jack Frost's family of labels have been a benchmark for quality from time immemorial. So, when they call this album 'Future', that comes with authority.

For V Recordings, the future is as much about building on what's come before as it is about brand new innovations. So, we see contemporary masters like Benny L, Voltage and L-Side pay homage to the classics with remixes of Roni Size, Ray Keith, Krust and Dillinja. Artificial Intelligence go back in on their anthem 'Uprising' to give it a cutting-edge reconfiguration, and Dr Meaker's 'Fighter' gets the S.P.Y treatment.

Then there are the 2020 visions of artists from across the spectrum of Drum & Bass music. The likes of Alibi, Paul T & Edward Oberon, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, DJ Marky & Dirtbag, Bladerunner, Zero T, Command Strange, Carlito & Addiction, Jonny L & Need for Mirrors deliver darkness and light, savagery and euphoria, musicality and hype in equal measure. And that's just scratching the surface.

The future that this album sets out before us is one where pigeon-holes and categories are unimportant. Certified legends rub shoulders with breakthrough artists. Heavyweight dancefloor bangers co-exist with soulfully melodic flavours. This music is unified, not by style or by marketability, but purely by the vibe. If that's what a V Recordings future looks like, we can relax. The scene is in safe hands.

Nymfo & Philth make their collaborative debut for Dispatch with two tracks of pure tech funk and groove.

Working together for the first time revealed a shared focus on a 'vibes first, mix down later' ethos that brings the flair and energy their music is known for. 'Juggernaut' was cooked up during Philth’s flying visit to the Netherlands and the equally rolling 'Infection' was the result of this quick fire methodology, ensuring that initial creative spark is captured in full.

A long overdue linkup which may leave you wondering why this superb meeting of minds took so long to come about.

Decades-deep in the game, we saw scene stalwart Profile explode onto Technique Recordings in 2019 with his and Sub Killaz' remix of 'Give You the World', the Crissy Criss & Youngman classic. Now, he's back alongside new gen production sharpshooter Tesen, who's been making waves with a raft of rave-savaging productions over recent years.

Opening with some slick jazz vibes, subtly-deployed brass and vocal samples riding over tight drums, 'Fusion' shows off these producers' musicality as much as their instincts for sheer dancefloor destruction. The rising cadence that leads us towards the bassline is infused with laid-back smoky soul, making the inevitable madness that follows even more heightened.

As the drums and vocals resolve together, the moment of exquisite harmony is viciously undercut by the raw power of the bass. Tesen and Profile's driving, serrated-edge blade of mid-range, teamed with militant sub-bass, and punctuated with twisted staccato stabs give the dance exactly what it needs. This is going to hit hard.

The dextrously programmed samples that create the vibe in 'Fusion' show that these two producers have got more in the locker than hard drums and screwface basses. Yeah, sure, they can do those all day, but they've also brought their secret weapon to bear: an aficionado's ear for chord construction. Classy and classic, and never less than heavyweight, the killer combo of Tesen and Profile is one to watch closely.
