Jonny Cola and his band of A-Grades - right-hand man Mauro Venegas and producer extraordinaire Jez Leather on guitars, bassist Simon Drowner supplying extra eyeliner, with drums given a sound thrashing by Marco Testa-Ryan - are starry-eyed pushers of edgy glam-rock pop songs to a growing number of disenfranchised refuseniks.

Following several years drunkenly roaming the London musical underground, dog-eared Travelcards in hand, partners-in-crime Jonny and Mauro decided to see what would happen if they joined forces. The initial culmination of this endeavour was the slightly scattershot debut album In Debt. Despite being heavily underpromoted and purely released as a download, the album and its songwriting pricked up a few ears in certain quarters and laid the ground - albeit tentatively - for what was to come.

Let’s do this properly then - enter Jez, providing not just more guitar (always a good thing) but recording expertise to boot, backed up by Simon and Marco’s harder, tighter rhythm section. First step - rescue a little of the back catalogue from obscurity with the Postcode Wars EP (“Think ‘All The Young Dudes’ with the slick rhythms of Blondie” - Artrocker), released by tiny indie Scratchy Records on 10” vinyl alongside a Warriors-referencing video directed by Jez and Jonny. Next, a Christmas anthem - ‘All I Want For Christmas Is An Action Man’ - accompanied by another self-made vid. Things were starting to warm up. The gigs were getting a lot busier, a fledgling scene threatening to develop around clubs like GlamRacket and a handful of other bands not slavishly chasing the next East London trend.

In March 2012, Jonny Cola & The A-Grades released the Halo EP. Very much the product of a more confident outfit with an increasingly clear identity, its four songs sparked particular excitement in the rock press, with Big Cheese drooling over its “glammy, anthemic punk hooks”, UberRock rhapsodising about the “wonderfully clever lyrics” and Black Velvet simply nailing the title track as “three minutes of pop rock greatness”. Having just scooped Best New Breed at the Pure Rawk Awards, and with the feathers’n’fans video for ‘Halo’ proving especially popular, the band was poised for a leap forward.

But everything was to come to an abrupt halt when, out of the blue, Jonny was diagnosed with advanced kidney failure. Tour dates were cancelled, album plans put on hold and, for the next eight months, the band retreated to playing just a handful of dates. While the gigs had a particular intensity - to a degree, every one felt like it could be the last - it was only after November, when Jonny received a kidney transplant (from his own fiancée, no less), that things could begin to move forward again.

At the start of April 2013, Jonny Cola & The A-Grades returned with the David Ryder Prangley-produced Straight To Video / Marlborough Road. Released on orange 7” vinyl, with two ambitious, interlocking videos drawing influence from Querelle and The Ring as much as the reality of London musical life, the ostentatious epic of an A-side and its punkier AA have made a real splash. “The A-Grades are back to bring a blast of glam rock to your mundane lives”, said long-running zine R*E*P*E*A*T, while the likes of Mudkiss (“bursting with energy, hooks and ideas”), Music News (“a band that puts style back into music”) and God Is In The TV (“magnificent and majestic”) have been lining up to heap praise on the single. Meanwhile, in a front page feature, topped with a picture of Jonny sprawled semi-naked, coated in glitter on a gravel path, normally sober magazine The Quietus claimed, “This is glam pop at its best”.

Now, with a series of gigs lined up in the capital - many of them self-promoted - alongside leading lights of the punk and rock scenes, and the second album well under way, the band are eagerly anticipating a year which is eventful for all the right reasons. In their review of the recent single, Record Collector stated, “This lot could be massive.” Jonny Cola and the boys have never doubted this. Now, finally, it seems others are starting to share this belief. Bring it on.

An exploratory improvising group from middle England, The Exploits of Elaine’s music hits like a relic from a forgotten future: the tribal utopia of a post-capitalist Britain. Deconstructing a variety of musical forms (krautrock, gamelan, folk traditions, post-punk, no wave), these young men reshape them into ghostly shapes and ecstatic trance-outs with all the glee of school children let loose in the instrument cupboard. Their music is without leadership or prefiguration and revels in the joys of the immanent, the unexpected and the mistaken. They utilise whatever they can lay their hands on: detuned guitars, bike wheels, circuit bent keyboards and homemade percussion all feature prominently, whilst contact mics are used to ‘play’ the room. 

It wasn't always like this, though. They formed as a group of teenagers in Telford back in 2002 with a desire to make short, cathartic instrumental songs inspired by the likes of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky. After a few years they moved to a more acoustic orientated sound utilising zither, banjo, mandolin and acoustic guitars and drawing influence from various folk musics.

DjLc was born in Ghent. Music was already instilled in him at an early age, as his parents had a very busy café in his teens... He bought him his first CD's with his savings. Since then his love for music has only grown. Due to studies and his professional career, he was unable to do what he always wanted to do... Which was to become a DJ.

From 1995 to 2002 he worked In the weekends as a waiter in a dancing around Ghent… There the microbe quickly resurfaced… 
Names like Dj Phi-Phi (Extreme), Marko de La Rocca (La Rocca), Dj Pascal (Cuba Libre & Kokoriko...), Mario (Zillion & Red & Blue), K&B on the MIC (Topradio), Michaël Forzza (Pulse Factory), Vince (Kokoriko & The Factory...), Cosmo (Extreme & Carat… came to do their 'gig'... By stealing a lot with his eyes, asking these experienced DJs for an explanation and purchasing his own DJ installation after a few years of 'stealing'... The learning could begin. He is a self-made man... Hours, hours and more hours behind the installation became days & nights to master 'DJing'. There was cursing, tears were shed, headphones flew through the house... But determinedly he kept going until he had mastered 'the game'! After more than a year and a half of practice, he started playing on a champion ball of a football club...
Now, years later and visits (gigs) to 'Private clubs' in Wetteren, Lokeren, Ronse, Hamme, Roeselare, Brussels... He also did DJ gigs in "Kokorico" - Lievegem, "Upstairs" - Roeselare, "Bolero" - Roeselare, "Kinky Star Club" - Ghent, "1 year Slave 2 the rhythm" - Izegem (Music For Life), ''t Kruiske" - Kruishoutem, "Invaders Festival" - Olsene, "Mixtapecollaborations Party" - Pepingen, "NYE 'Le Grilloir'' - Bruges, "Cocktail Bar 'Cocktails & Dreams" - Izegem, "Lounge B52" - Mechelen, "Ockxfest" - Antwerp, "Your Store" - Antwerp, "Surf & Skate & Snow AwakeFest" - Blankenberge, "Latoya LoungeBar" - Loppem, "Club Verso" - Ingelmunster, "Garden & Private Parties", 2 years on BOTH-Radio (weekly show)... etc... etc....

"DjLc" hopes to raise the bar more and more, so he can continue his great passion for music…

AFM- A combination of break ya neck beats and intelligent commentary intertwined with the catchiest hooks and choruses known to music!

While it’s hard to put a definitive date on when AFM was officially formed, the core members Joey Ocean and Vinomaz have been rocking together for over 10 years. The name AFM is an acronym which stands for A Family Movement and though both members are of different ethnic backgrounds, they are family by way of a mutual love of the music and promote unity of all people encouraging listeners to judge others by there hearts as opposed to their skin color. Joey Ocean hails from Pasadena while Vinomaz represents Carpinteria. Even with the 75 mile distance between the 2, it doesn’t hinder them from getting together in the studio and recording magic. There unique brand of hip hop sets them aside from any group to ever come from the West Coast as they are able to address issues of the common man while putting a spin on them that make you wanna dance, cry and laugh all at the same time. Many of their fans end up scratching there cds attempting to rewind the so that they can catch all of the witty punch lines.

AFM has played many shows throughout southern California including famous spots like the “The Whiskey”, The Troubadour, Key Club and Velvet Jones as well as opening up for acts like Raekwon, Talib Kweli, SOS Band, Zapp & Roger, Master P and many others. After signing a deal and dropping an album with the now defunct label IDDP in 2005, AFM has now reemerged with a fresh perspective and has started their own label called Neo Classic Records. 2009 saw some of the best results as AFM was recognized by the Mavric Independent Music Awards for their hip hop anthem “Mic Raiders” receiving hip hop single of the year!

AFM’s newest project to drop is called Collard Greens and Pinto Beans. Already it is garnering a lot of attention and rave reviews from critics and fans alike. This 18 track opus gives us a true look into the lives of 2 family men who find that humor combined with true lyrical prowess is the best remedy for everyday life. Songs like Kill Bill that talk about there disdain for Bill collectors find the group making fun of their situations as far as being broke while other songs like Sippin on Saturn touch on how nice it is to get away mentally sometimes.

Vinomaz serves as the primary producer while Joey Ocean brings his infectious hooks to the table allowing for a harmonious union. Their music is a way of life and from the beginning of the album until the end, you can feel the authenticity in all that they speak about on each song. All of these factors plus a crazily hyped live show make for one the best groups in any musical genre. Be on the lookout for AFM!

DJ Ntelect of Chicago who resides in Vancouver, British Columbia created *DirtyDeepDown from elements of his successful male traveling dance nights "Desnudo".  After realizing that his nights weren’t the most easy nights to throw due to the nature of the theme, Ntelect decided to create D3 as an all encompassing night for men of all genres and backgrounds who have a love to dance and express their openness and sexual freedoms in a club environment.

Ntelect, who sang for several years for some of the world’s most famous DJ/Producers, took his position as a DJ after retiring the mic for the decks.  Realizing that house music took a drastic left turn from solid vocals, Ntelect decided to resurrect vintage house tunes and fuse them with today's soulful and jack tracks to create dance nights.  While recognizing that popular DJ's have sacrificed their personal styling’s to play top 40's and dub step, Ntelect chose to stay true to his soul and stay deep, soulful and organic. 

A few clubs have embraced his rare groove house stylings like Club 1181, Club 23 and Shine Nightclub which allows Ntelect to flourish creatively.  When he's not working a dance floor, he creates mini mixes under *DirtyDeepDown.  

The best way to enjoy DJ Ntelect is live, very few DJ's have the ability to spin and sing live but this one that can and on rare occasions; does.
