Ode To A Savage

This is the warm up set I played at Planet Wax for the Unity Underground Takeover. A deep mix of old and new, beautiful jungle <3 I kept it vinyl and loved every second of playing these tunes. 

The recording was from the following day when we did our Unity Underground Show on Energy1058. Both myself and Chuga were so sleep deprived and I wasn't sure what to play for our show...so I thought I'd  do the set from Planet Wax. I do ID one of tunes wrong because of reading the wrong side of the record but the correct track listing is below! :)

This show was 100% 92-93 vinyl, picked off the cuff from my wall live, often with people in chat suggesting which cubes to pull tracks from. I was up for maybe 36 hours before this, and Idiotic banter and dodge mixing aside,I think this is a more fun, lively and "normal" selection than usual. Nothing to prove with obscurity after obscurity, mainly banging tunes and huge favorites that stuck out when quickly rifling through. Will try to bring a bit more of this type of thing to future shows, minus the no sleep.

Our first podcast of 2021 comes from Mako, a staple of the Metalheadz camp and an artist that has released both a solo album and a collab album (as OneMind) on the label in recent years. 

For this edition the Bristol-based producer and DJ has dug deep into his crates to deliver a Certificate 18 special, a groundbreaking label founded by Paul Arnold in 1993 that went on to nurture the talents of early pioneering figures such as Photek, Source Direct, Teebee, Klute and more. 

In Goldie's own words "Certificate 18 isn’t really a label, in the same way that Ibiza Records isn’t a label, in the same way that Kikman Records isn’t a label. It’s the very foundation. It’s a certain parallax with those labels that sometimes when we’re in the dark we need to shine a brighter light on those that have paved the way”.
