the passing of time

all music was created digitally using fl studio and vst plugins. far from what i want it to be, but still close enough. nothing is ever finished, it seems. can always be better, more, zoom in further or have variations extend. the search for virtual instruments... i do some jams on a keyboard over basslines, but can't play. i need to adjust the notes digitally. still i want to convey the feeling of an actual performance (played as opposed fully digitally created) which is all in the details. of course the music theory -- consonance and dissonance, each individual note having been chosen carefully; also the complex layering of rhythms, harmonically and melodically; especially to program on a mechanism something organic sounding; a note slightly off beat creating a twinkle or tension, an accent note to complement the coming tone, pre-programmed rubato, and ... the build-up: the velocities which are so important throughout a piece, creating soft-spoken poetry or tense drama, which can be in a single score, depending on interpretation. and last but not least the mixing of the sound. a lot of time spent on details and to consciously discern and compare versions, a lot of effort goes into the mastering of the mix. i like to create a flow that's entrancing but have been experimenting with other types of music lately, like non-repeating basslines. autodidact and love to learn.
