This year's Best of Bootie Mashup mixtape is a little different than previous years, in that it's almost a three-part suite. The first section jumps right in with dance-pop disco vibes, kicking things off with a mashup of Dua Lipa's "Dance The Night," the showcase single from the year's biggest movie, "Barbie." (Not so coincidentally, "Barbie" also was the theme of our biggest party in 2023.)

We always have an EDM mashup section on the album, but this year we get to the bangers sooner, and stay there longer, to keep you pumped on the dancefloor. Then it's time for the third and final stretch, with a long tail of inventive, mostly genre-clashed mashups, including a block of Taylor Swift tracks (after all, this was certainly her year) and the requisite chill-out (and WTF) mashups to take us to the end. 

We always try to include as many "big hits" of the year as we can, as well as showcasing throwback tracks that got a makeover by being mashed up in creative ways. Special shout-out to DJ Firth for mixing this year's edition, and Adriana A for curating the Bootie Mashup team's favorites.

Mix for the Shizzle from UFO Hawaii :
Berlin-based composer Achim Treu aka  UFO Hawaii offers listeners an in-depth exploration of his distinctive sound. Achim Treu has been creating music since the 1980s and is widely respected for his stylistic diversity. His approach defies easy categorisation: each UFO Hawaii album presents a fresh sonic landscape and what he has selected for us this evening is a perfect fit for the show.

Treu’s work is characterised by recurring influences from Krautrock, Electronica, Soundtracks, and New Wave, making his productions both eclectic and innovative. For tonights show he has curated a selection of pieces spanning his various works and releases. The result is an engaging and varied journey through his creative world having a hand in every track that he has put down for us tonight (that’s definitely a first for this show). I love it and Im sure you will to.

In Hour 2 we welcome Khruangbin , the Texan trio who take influence from 1960's Thai funk (their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai ) and include Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums. Their debut album from 2015 ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspirations and was recorded at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside. The band listened to a lot of different types of music on the long drives out to the country but their favorites were 60s and 70s Thai cassettes gleaned from the cult Monrakplengthai blog and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk. Their mix is a sublime selection of music that includes Arthur Verocai, Return to Forever, Serge Gainsbourg, Miles Davis and some incredibly rare records from Christy Azuma, Ahmed Fakroun and Theodora Ifudu. You can catch them playing alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jamie XX and Kamasi Washington in Hyde Park, London on 2nd July, their US Tour kicks off in September and they have a remix release coming out in early June.
