Detroit underground mainstay Waajeed is an inventive producer whose indefatigable head-down work ethic has resulted in a varied discography and an equally diverse global network of collaborators. An original member of rap group Slum Village, Waajeed progressed from DJ to beatmaker before co-founding Platinum Pied Pipers, a group who issued two highly regarded albums of forward-thinking R&B and hip-hop during the 2000s. Between those releases, he issued The War LP, a comparatively grim (if no less collaborative) solo project, and since then, he has favored house music with the albums From the Dirt LP (2018) and Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz (2022). The latter full-length was
issued on Berlin's revered Tresor label.
