Interview with John Crombie, one of the three producers in Arcane Trickster - a DJ & Producer team. They are based in Melbourne, Australia

When and how did you discover Electronic Music?
-I really became interested in electronic music through listening to industrial / electronic crossover styles. At that time I was playing in bands as a drummer, however, not long after discovering electronic music I sold my drumkit and purchased a drum machine. From that time on I was all in and never looked back discovering different styles and artists.

Which Genre Styles have made a special impact on you through the years, and can you tell us why?
-I think like many people, when you're younger you gravitate more towards a faster and harder style of music. For me with electronic music it was no different starting out listening to Psy-Trance and hard drum and bass. More recently I've found Dub techno and more chilled genres are really what I enjoy working on.

How did you started DJing and producing as a team?
-I met Damiano through his cousin, who I went to university with. Damiano introduced me to Chris and we essentially started producing and DJing together from that point on and have basically not stopped since. We started out playing smaller gigs but soon moved onto festivals and clubs - both on main stages and chill out areas.

What's the background about your name Arcane Trickster?
-I think we heard the term in an interview with Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke. 

What are your favorite and least favorite parts of working with music?
-For me by far it is the creative process and finding those moments where everything clicks and a track comes together effortlessly. My least favorite part... I don't think I have one.

Do you have a network of other DJs/artists, locally or globally, and how do you support each other?
-Damiano, and his brother Cristian run a pair of labels, Tempest Recordings and Slice Records. We Release and collaborate with many of our friends, including Iderdown, Ear Mind Eye, Son Of Zev, Stickleback, Garagee, Lonely Faces, Chlorophil and plenty of others. It's a great way to support each other, and to keep you challenged and growing creatively.

Could you tell us about any of your upcoming releases?
-On Feb 7th we released a new single on Serbian Techno label, HDR Limit called "Bubble Plate" which will feature remixes from Minitronik, Levi Octa, artlif3 & Jim Naposhto. On 25th February, we will have a new single "Argos" released on Greek ambient label, Cosmicleaf Records. Beyond that, we have many projects in the pipeline. We are generally very prolific.
