🎸 About the Track:
"Whatever" (originally "Yeah, Whatever") was the first single released in my 2023 comeback after nearly three decades. The song is a cover that was written by Waymon Boone and performed by Splender, a rock band from New York City, active in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The song was part of their debut album "Halfway Down the Sky," which was released in 1999. The band gained moderate success with their catchy melodies and introspective lyrics, making "Yeah, Whatever" a standout track on the album.

This cover holds a special connection for me as my former band from NYC played in the same circuit of venues with Splender and even shared the same bill a couple of times. I was one of the first A&R people to approach them and offer a record deal at the now-defunct Continuum Records, where I headed up A&R. I have always been fond of the band, especially Waymon Boone's writing and vocal style, which resonates deeply with me.

In 2023 I teamed up with Mauricio Mirapalheta, a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist with deep roots in metal and punk. Our collaboration has turned what was originally planned as a solo project into a band named Wágner. Mauricio is also responsible for engineering and producing all of our music.

We continue to be busy in the studio, working on new original songs that will be part of a forthcoming album entitled 'It's Only Just Begun' and some reimagined iconic covers that will be packaged together on the soon to be released 'Sonic Memories.'

"Castaway" is a very personal single from the forthcoming album, ‘It's Only Just Begun.’ The single is a narrative of finding strength amidst life’s tumult. The storyline is symbolic of the period in which I paused my music business career both willingly and unwillingly. Seamlessly continuing the emotional odyssey from our 2023 release, “Guiding Me To The Edge,” “Castaway” explores themes of disconnection and resilience.

"Paranoid" is a track from 'Sonic Memories,' an album featuring deftly reimagined covers of iconic songs from decades past.

"Paranoid" is originally a song by Black Sabbath from their 1970 album of the same name. Written by bassist Geezer Butler, the song is one of the band's most famous tracks and is considered a heavy metal classic. The song was written as a last-minute addition to the album and ended up becoming one of Black Sabbath's biggest hits, with its fast-paced riff and memorable lyrics.

In this cover, I aimed to capture the intensity and raw energy of the original while adding my own unique twist to it. My version stays true to the powerful essence of the song but introduces a fresh interpretation that reflects my own musical influences and style.

"For No One" is originally a song by The Beatles from their 1966 album "Revolver." Written by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership, it is a melancholic ballad about the end of a relationship. The song stands out for its classical influence and the use of a clavichord, an uncommon instrument in pop music.

In this cover, I connect deeply with the song, as The Beatles have been a massive inspiration throughout my life. When I was 9 years old, I would sing their songs in the shower and pretend that I was performing in front of a large crowd. This cover reflects that nostalgic connection and my deep appreciation for their music.

Originally released on The Beatles' 1968 double album "The Beatles" (commonly known as the "White Album"), "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was written by George Harrison. The song was inspired by the Chinese "I Ching" and features a distinctive guitar solo by Eric Clapton, who played as a guest on the track.

Our cover version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," is a tribute to one of my biggest inspirations. The Beatles significantly influenced my decision as a young boy to become a rock musician someday, making this cover a heartfelt homage to the legendary band.

I'm Wágner, a NYC native now based in Orlando, Florida, and the former lead singer of the mid-nineties alternative rock band, Nerve.

My musical journey began at 15 with the recording of two demos, "Dust" and "Visions of You." A year later, these demos were reimagined for my first commercial release, a debut EP titled 'A Way of Life.' This EP featured a radio mix and dance remix of "The Third Wave of Sorrow," produced and engineered by Rob "Bung" Bengston at The Workshoppe Recording Studios. Known for its work with The Fixx's Cy Curnin and housing Blondie's "Betrok Tapes," the studio's reputation was further enhanced by the guest appearance of Victor Loud, renowned touring and session drummer for Billy Idol, who contributed both drum and additional percussion parts.

An immediate hit at New Wave clubs, this debut EP was released by Novus Records and nationally distributed through Important Record Distributors, which later became Relativity Entertainment Distribution (RED) in the 199s, and ultimately Sony/RED Distribution.

In 2023, after stepping away from the music scene for nearly three decades, I teamed up with Mauricio Mirapalheta, a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist with deep roots in metal and punk. Our collaboration has turned what was originally planned as a solo project into a duo named Wágner. Mauricio is also responsible for engineering and producing all of our music.
