The duo “Wahid” (Los Angeles 2008) is considered by many critics and musicologists to be one of the preeminent duos today. The music is traditionally based in the Levant, yet modern and broad reaching in execution. Wahid is Dimitris Mahlis on oud and vocals and Chris Wabich on tuned frame drums and percussion. Their fifth and most daring release, “Resonance” includes traditional rebetika and 2 well known John Coltrane pieces, "India" and "A Love Supreme". "Resonance" opens the ears of new listeners who are finally able to familiarize themselves with these ancient instruments.
