Rep. Greg Cheney, R-Battle Ground, has sponsored legislation to increase penalties for catalytic converter theft, including for those who buy the metal. More than 12,000 catalytic converter thefts were reported in Washington state in 2021. Cheney says those numbers will be much higher for 2022 once all the data is collected.
