I did this mix for my 40th birthday bash back on 4th May. It was an exclusive mix for the night 'May the 4th be with you' that was put on for me by Contagious and my wife Caroline!

Wain Johnstone B2B Caz Wood Classics set @ Frantic, Timeless 2015

Well here it is. I have been djing since 2002 and always attended the Tidy Weekenders. Had some amazing times but as a dj surely nothing can beat playing at a weekender. I have never been asked until this year when Sam asked me and Alf to play a Lamin8ers set on the Sunday night in the bounce room of what could be the last ever weekender.

I was pretty fucking excited. It got even better when Alfie said I should play it solo because I deserved to get my own set at a weekender and he really isn't a fan of bounce, he only made these Lamin8ers tracks with me because we love working together and basically i made him do them for me, i went to a wonderful charm school.

Anyways... on the night it was fucking brilliant. The crowd were amazing and I had the time of my life. I am so chuffed it went as well as it did and some of the feedback through various new fans status on facebook I have never been happier about a set. Two separate people said it was their set of the weekend and I was blown away by a lads comment that it was the best set he had EVER heard!!! (wow!...... although i have to question, has he been to more than two sets in his life?)

I am about to go to bed but will post the tracklist in the next few days. Thank you for all your support throughout the years and i am hyper chuffed i finally got to play for you at a Tidy Weekender.

Wain Johnstone's Guest Mix on Andy Whitby's Hardkast 37

To celebrate 10 years since my first ever demo 'Smile' I wanted to do something special. This mix is the first of a few I have planned this year and I wanted to make it EPIC! So its 4 hours long!!! Yep that's right, 4 Hours. By far the longest mix I have ever done.

I am best known for playing Bounce and its the genre I like playing the most. This mix is basically a best of Wain Johnstone bounce from the last 10 years encompassing nothing but tunes I absolutely adore and a stack of my favourite power mixes which you may have heard before but I had to include for nostalgic reasons! 

Don't expect a journey! No no no! This is full on peak time bounce done the Wain Johnstone way!

In 2006 I did my first official demo and for some reason I named it Smile. Because of this demo I got my first proper gigs and managed to spread my name a little. 
Things really took off a year later when i did Smile 2 and released it the week of a Tidy Weekender. I think i posted out nearly 400 copies!
Since then I have done a Smile mix ever year. Its been nearly 18 months since Smile 5 so i figured I better get a move on!

I have tried to make all the demos fast paced and fun. Always sticking to a formula of combining Hard Dance, Bounce and Hard Trance. In particular making sure the mixing is interesting, tight and keeps that pace up! You wont see many 'Cut Mixes' on my demos!

So here it is. Its been months in the planning, collecting tracks, making tracks, sorting the artwork, making an intro, mixing the thing and doing all this while still keeping the 'Smile' feel to the mix.
Hopefully i have done a good job. I have included my favourite tracks from the last year by some of my favourite producers and combined them with my new productions since Smile 5. I had to do something special at the end of the cd to complete the series so I hope you enjoy 'Wains World!'

This is a mix I did for a good friend who wanted some new music to keep him company on his climb up Kilimanjaro! He successfully got to the top, so obviously I am taking the credit!

Donktagious was such a well recieved mix that I decided to do a follow up and give it to the biggest fans of the original. They lapped it up and said it was another hit. I did it almost 6 months ago now so I thought I would make it available for everyone!

I followed up my first demo a year later with Smile 2. More of the same uplifting hard dance that got me noticed. This one included my first ever production 'The Birds'.

Smile 4 - Wain Johnstone

This is a promotional mix I did for the Contagious Bouncing Ball in 2008. I wanted to do a very cheesy silly bounce/donk mix specifically aimed at making people smile and have a laugh! Or hate it and cry! Either works for me. Its ideal after party material!

Its not serious and its not clever but hopefully you will love it.

I have leaned the mix slightly towards the hard house side of things because the Weekenders are the spiritual home of hard house in my eyes!

Ideal Company - Wain Johnstone

Hi folks,

Thanks for visiting. I have been djing since 2002 and playing in clubs since 2006.  I have recently retired from playing in clubs so the only place you will hear my music will be online.

I love hard dance especially the bounce side of things. I am all about high energy and uplifting tunes so if that's your thing then you are in the right place!

I have played for brands such as Frantic, Tidy, Polysexual, AWsum, Contagious, B2T, Nu Religion, Bounce Factory, We Love Bounce, Dirtbox, Sundissential & Wildchild. Holding residencies at Contagious, Bounce & We Love Bounce.

I have been lucky enough to play at some great venues including The Tidy Weekender, Global Gathering, Gatecrasher, SE One, Koko, Scala, The Sanctuary, Escape, Renaissance Rooms & Hidden.

I made my way into the scene by getting recognition for my hugely popular 'Smile' demos. This combined with various other mixes and producing many popular tracks has planted my name firmly in the hard dance scene. I am the driving force and one half of the mighty Lamin8ers, the 8-bit hard dance sensation! Check out the Lamin8ers soundcloud for more info.

Since retiring I have enjoyed sticking together some trance mixes. This is the stuff I love to go clubbing to. Its only for fun so I hope you enjoy them.
