Brace yourself for a gale-force whirlwind of hammering beats and robotic groans, this one’s an unremitting hour of dizzying and densely packed rhythms. By all accounts, Japan is a must-stop destination for techno lovers, the wealth of sounds in its export ledger reveal a strong culture for parties and music production; from north to south, the country more than pulls its weight. A little known corner on the northernmost island of Hokkaido is home to this next guest. By now, OCCA’s a local fixture, whose galloping techno has fired up crowds at Future Terror, Gong, Exit the Labyrinth and Balance, as well as ravers from his very own Archiv parties held at legendary Sapporo mainstay Precious Hall. Intro over, now for the music: his techno is threatening and mercurial, an ever-mutating patchwork of frenzied rhythms and throbbing synths. Bassiani Podcast 184 is an hour of pure techno chaos, supercharged beats from this esoteric 4/4 master.

This next one comes from way out east, the axis of Asian electronic cool named Tokyo, Japan to be more precise. Local DJ Yui is a keystone of his city’s cultural offering, with regular slots at Vent, Womb, Mitsuki et al, and his prolific Dreamescape party has added something irresistibly new to the mix too, inviting guests such as Haruka, Resom, and Bassiani’s very own HVL to his temple-studded, neon-lit hometown. Carefully, methodically slicing up visceral beats, Yui builds a heavy web of dubby techno rhythms that yield dance-focused and clever results. Heavy, full, sweaty and embodied techno, his sound is highly refined and cool to the core, and his sets, for those who find themselves in his neck of the woods, are a must-see. Enter Bassiani Podcast 225: a transcendental voyage from beginning to end, from sinister frequencies through taut echoes, dry beatwork, layers and layers of mechanical emotion, and a delicate IDM epilogue in tow. It’s an hour of haunting sounds that shape-shift and climb then descend back to this earthly realm with the softness of a falling feather. Bassiani invites Yui / Podcast #225

Very excited to share this set, recorded live at the Colorfloor of Lofi during Coda on the final day of ADE 2024. The warm and smokey colorfloor set the tone. A mysterious and intimate atmosphere that I wanted to translate into this 3-hour journey.

I began with lighter, fast-paced rhythms, gradually adding layers of darker soundscapes and heavier kicks. As the set progressed, I switched to a more entrancing energy, building up to an atmosphere that felt both groovy and hypnotic. An ideal handover to Kia and Reptant, who followed after me.

JEANS: When I was invited to play at ZERØ BPM and the concept was explained to me, I was immediately sold. I’ve always been fascinated by frequencies, sound waves, and their profound effect on the environment. For years, I’ve been quietly experimenting with them in the background, and this was the perfect opportunity to bring that experiment into the open.

I’ve often found it nearly impossible to fully surrender to music during a club night—especially in the Netherlands—because I know too many people, and conversations constantly pull me out of the experience. Zero BPM created a space where silence was not just encouraged but required, compelling everyone to truly listen.

For this set, I carefully selected frequencies and tones designed to interact with specific aspects of the mind and emotions. Since brain waves take approximately eight minutes to synchronize with surrounding sounds, I maintained particular frequencies long enough for everyone in the room to align and resonate as one. The result was breathtaking.

Afterward, I received an overwhelming number of responses from people who had experienced profound inner journeys—some even describing it as a turning point in their lives, pushing them to confront and work through personal obstacles.

To me, this is what music is truly about. I am merely a conduit, translating the energy we collectively manifest into sound and waves—frequencies that allow us to vibrate together, creating a healing force for the mind and soul.

This set marked a full-circle moment, childhood friends united behind the decks for their first ever B2B set on New Year's Day. The chemistry was palpable from the fun they were having in the booth, which radiated onto the Colorfloor and had everybody locked in, warping the energy into that special night.
