I was born in Scotland and raised mostly in South Africa, but I have a deep connection with my Celtic roots.  Scottish and Celtic folklore are common themes in the songs I write, for example, my songs  'Warriors Cry' and 'The Clan MacDonald'.   In the past year after going through personal hardships like breast cancer and losing my beloved brother, my songwriting took on a darker tone, as you can see in the songs Death be not Proud, Stay a wee While, and Long Shadows. I am currently working on new projects which will be available shortly.

MATTHEW CURTIS, tenor, recently performed with the Grammy award-winning Chanticleer, where he held the position of Assistant Music Director. He also sang with the internationally acclaimed Rose Ensemble in 2009 and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale for one summer in 2009. Matthew began singing choral music at age 7 with the La Crosse Boychoir and sang with the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman Gallery Singers for nine years beginning in 1999.

A Wisconsin native, he received his bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education as a Liberace Scholar from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2008. He continued studying for a year in the graduate school at the University of Minnesota focusing on opera.

Matthew’s solo performances include light, lyric tenor roles. Matthew played the role of Steva in Janacek’s Jenůfa and the lead tenor role of Male Chorus in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia at the University of Minnesota. Viterbo University roles included Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Monsieur Vogelsang (Der Schauspieldirektor), and Policeman Chorus (Pirates of Penzance). Past oratorio performances include Messiah and The Creation.

Matthew has won numerous awards in his young career. He won an Encouragement Award at the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the Iowa district. In his seven years competing at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Wisconsin State Chapter Student auditions, he appeared as a finalist all seven times including four first place awards and two second place awards. He also became a Liberace Scholar in 2006 from the Liberace Foundation for excellence in academics and performance.

Heather is passionate about freeing voices, uplifting hearts, and transforming lives through the power of singing. She is not only a successful recording artist, but spreads her magic through her Yala Lati women’s choir, her 20 plus years of international song circle leading, and her on-line coaching and training programs. Heather is in the recording studio working on two new albums of original material.

Bella Hardy, the inimitable voice of modern folk, established her reputation as a songwriter when her first original composition Three Black Feathers earned a BBC Folk Award nomination in 2008.

Bella has since become a regular on radio and television, notably singing solo in a sold-out Albert Hall at the Proms. She’s written and recorded with everyone from Beautiful South founder David Rotheray to folk luminary Eliza Carthy, and performed with the great Mary Chapin Carpenter on her UK tours. She learnt the songs of Chinese farmers during her time as British Council Musician in Residence in Yunnan Province, spent a year in Tennessee as a ranch hand,  and sat on the moors of her beloved Peak District with only her fiddle for company. 

With the ability to conjure and twist stories that call straight to the heart, her themes of displacement and home, lost and found love, heartache and joy, are delivered with her unique, disarming honesty, and the acclaimed crystalline voice that won her BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Singer of the Year 2014.

Traditional and Original Gaelic from the Highlands of Scotland

Born August 1950 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Moved to L.A. area in the USA in 1973. From there to the Seattle area in 1982 with my wife and several cats. I started playing the guitar around 1960 'cause my sister Imelda started dating Eamon Hughes who played in a "showband' (a very particular Irish phenomenon).Eamon gave my brother Hilary and me our first lessons. What a gift! I'm still earning my living because of it.I have a wide range of musical influences...Everything from 1960 on plus a great affection for Irish folk music,which started when my sister Gabrielle and her boyfriend John Magee took me to see "The Clancy Brothers" I try to include all these genres at my gigs.

Liz Carroll was born in Chicago of Irish parents. She's a junior and senior All-Ireland Fiddle Champion, and has toured as a solo artist and with the Greenfields of America, Trian, String Sisters, and as part of the duo Liz Carroll & John Doyle. She's featured on ten albums and has appeared on many more. Liz is a recipient of the National Heritage Fellowship Award (1994). In 2010 she became the first Irish-American musician nominated for a Grammy. In 2011, she became the first American-born composer honored with the Cumadóir TG4, Ireland's most significant traditional music prize.
