After its outstanding reception following its initial release back in January, Wankelmut & Emma Louise's infectious single - 'My Head Is A Jungle' returns with a souped up package and is set to be released worldwide on 15TH September via Positiva. Heavily supported by BBC R1's Pete Tong, 'My Head Is A Jungle' was dubbed his 'Essential New Tune' back in February as well as receiving championing support from BBC R1's tastemaker Annie Mac. It comes as no surprise that the single is already platinum in Italy, top 30 in Germany (and rising) and top 5 airplay in South Africa!

Wankelmut who has mainly been deejaying in underground clubs in Berlin such as Sisyphos and MIKZ, became 'Newcomer of the Year' last year (GROOVE Magazine) and has been in high demand as both DJ and Remixer ever since. Wankelmut has a very entertaining and well crafted way of deejaying with a huge variety of styles from Deep House to Techno. Beside playing all over Europe he remixed Gossip, Jay Haze, Lukas Graham and various other underground records which established his status within the Techno House Scene. On his 24th birthday in December 2011 Wankelmut aka Jacob Dilßner uploaded his unofficial remix for Asaf Avidan's "Reckoning Song' to Soundcloud. More than one year later the now official remix has sold 1.3 Million copies on Sony/Columbia, scored over 100 Million Youtube Plays and entered the #1 spot in 8 european countries, as well as being the best-selling track on Beatport last year.

In cooperation with the talented Australian singer Emma-Louise, the duo deliver a finely tuned piece of melodic brilliance. Wankemut's faultless Tech-house production, and Emma-Louise's blissful vocals will have you instantly hooked and will be circling around your head for days to come. Purple Velvet is Chris James and Lee Dearn, two purveyors of deep and sensuous house music since forming in late 2011. Having gotten to know each other at various late night music sessions, the pair have increasingly honed their own house sound that’s as suited to the dark confines of a club as it is the sunnier vibes of an outdoor terrace. Examples to date can be found on the ever on-point Berlin label, Exploited, in the form of their Flashways EP. Both tracks pair fresh and radiant synth work with loose beats and plenty of colourful details, and have garnered support from the likes of Huxley, Til Von Sein and Apollonia’s Dyed Soundorom for their dance floor dynamics. The pair have also contributed tracks to compilations on Exploited and Dirt Crew, and releases on Noir, Dirt Crew and Local Talk. With their follow-up 'Solstice' (including a remix by Bristol disco pets Behling & Simpson) on Exploited,  Purple Velvet are well on their way to emerging as the breakthrough stars of 2013.

After the success obtained with the last 2 releases by Carlos Sanchez and Franck Valat during this summer, comes a very special release, the first preview of Rafaël Murillo album, who will be released this winter on Suruba.

Rafaël is a Parisian with a very special taste, that's why we’ve set an eye on him to sign his first studio album, called “Only time will tell”.
With his first hit, in early 2012, he achieved with his "Background feat. Jaw ", vocalist known for working regularly with Guy Gerber, Rafael caught the attention of the European scene where he has published some originals demonstrating his level as a producer.

For this first album preview, he presents us "Snoud", produced in collaboration with another of his regular vocalists, Jay Nada. A track that is closer to the style of Suruba X and that’s why we decided to publish it here.

First remix signed by the English Samu.l, one of the most played underground artists in the last year and who has already published his "No Games EP" before summer in Suruba X.  An usual on labels like One Records or Infuse, his style fits perfectly in X.

Second one signed by the Berlin-based Greek Siopis. Better known in his early days as "Silversurfer" nearly 10 years ago that he first published in Crosstown Rebels and aroused the love Damian Lazarus has for him.
More than 5 years under his new alias and 50 releases later, especially in Get Physical (where he has published more than 20), Jannis has nothing to prove to anyone. His second remix on the label has the same quality as the first one published in late 2012.

To complete the release, we have Pherox, original from Santa Cruz (California), although resident in Germany, producer who manages to capture in all of his works a dark sound with an incredible quality, example of this his numerous releases on labels like Dumb Unit, Stock5, Slash or JETT.

First Day Remixes

First Day (Gorgon City Remix)

This track is about having a walk on a nice sunny day in the countryside, all is well and good, until you accidentally fall off a cliff. We chose the title in Deutsch due to the kick focused poundingness rhythmically.

It was a fun track as I decided I'd let loose, and you might notice, particularly towards the end it gets pretty loose! But luckily Tom's beautiful 5 bar piano riff is there to anchor things at either end, and hopefully save you from the death by cliff (you might notice it's a pain to mix with those 5 bar loops though).

So a bit of background - Tom Hodge is a great pianist and composer who I met recently, and we've been working on lots of interesting things. This is the most extreme in terms of the noise levels really, we've done some nice stuff too, as we're not planning on starting a death metal band just yet.

Lot's more to hear from this collaboration with the release out on Monday 28th on Fields + an amazing remix from Petrels of the A-side track (Fragments of Self) + an amazing video for the A-side by Nick Cobby, which we're all really excited about!

Fresh from the success of the Guilty Pleasures EP by Satin Jackets & Ejeca, next up from the ever growing House of Disco Records is Finnebassen's - ’Baby’ EP. Boasting make overs from Monitor 66, Ron Basejam and Debonair along with the original track itself, this is a vinyl with credentials that speak for themselves. 

The EP opens with the original track 'Baby' from the Norwegian born producer Finnebassen. With previous releases titled ’Babies’ ’Footsteps’ and ’Bleedin out’ I'm starting to wonder if there's some sort of subliminal message at work. However with the rate at which he's been outputting releases lately there are no signs that he has anything other than more music on the way. ’Baby’ is not what we have become accustomed to expecting from Finnebassen, it strays away from his usual deep poignant echoing house tracks. Instead it's a rich funk filled gem of a track that he's shown he is capable of through his ’silly pilly edit’ of It's gonna take a long time. With bluesy lead guitar riffs and his trademark bass line it's the perfect soundtrack for a blossoming summer season.

The first remix of the EP comes from Swedish trio Monitor 66 who produce under the ethos of creating ’'music for sunsets.’ The track certainly embodies that motif as gorgeous saxophone licks and chiming synths over a shifting bassline give it a deep tropical feel. Next up is the remix from James Baron, or as the anagram works and we know him as, Ron Basejam. His remix is more of a straight up boogie house track letting the echoing vocals do a lot of the work whilst being complimented by sprinkles of playful keys. The sliced vocals work a treat and he manages to maintain the tracks strong groove throughout. The final remix of the EP comes from London based artist Debonair who strips down the track into a deep atmospheric affair making it the perfect weapon of choice for an after hour set. Ominous kicks and the spades of tension and atmosphere will make sure that fists are pumping well into the early hours of the morning.

Dimitri Veimar was born in Germany, raised in Russia and spends his winter months in Bali.   Dimitri has been a bedroom producer since 1999 and has since developed a genre-defying style that is an eclectic mix of inspirations, with a nod to the early works of progressive house maestro, James Zabiela.

An unofficial remix for my Movement Club DJ partner, Daniel Avery, was the kick-start Dimitri needed to pay more attention to making records.   He sent a string of extremely well produced, slow burning acid-infused tracks to Daniel and subsequently myself that have been tried and tested to great effect.  From the eight that I received (all of which would have made a fantastic album) I chose 4 for his debut EP.  The title track “The Boys” has power and groove and the emotional elements of an early Kompakt record.  “Obama & Birds” and “Idi” are out and out floor fillers and have already been praised by Daniel, Justin Robertson and Erol Alkan.  The final track “Casablanca” retains the epic emotional feel, rounding off what is set to be the biggest Clouded Vision release so far.

On behalf of Clouded Vision Recordings I am very excited to inject Dimitri’s music into the world.  His EP will be followed by a remix of Justin Robertson’s project the Deadstock 33s, to be released on Gomma in the summer of 2013.

RIPPERTON – “A LITTLE PART OF SHADE”

Swiss producer Ripperton returns to present his new studio album “A Little Part Of Shade” due for release June 2013.

The musician’s second full-length album will further deepen his impressive catalogue of work and follow the 2010 critically acclaimed “Niwa” seeing his return to Joris Voorn and Edwin Oosterwal’s Amsterdam based Green label.

Ripperton gained popularity as a producer with his Lazy Fat People project releasing on high profile labels such as Border Community, Planet E, or Wagon Repair; he rapidly grew as a solo artist with an almost endless run of key releases on Green, Liebe Detail, Connaisseur, Music Man, Systematic, Dessous and remixes for Radiohead (“Nude”), Laurent Garnier (“Controlling The House”), Ellen Allien (“My Tree”), Beanfield (“Tides”), Max Cooper (‘Egomodal’) labeled him as a refined studio producer, adding a newfound sense of introspection to electronic house music.

Since the release of Niwa in 2010, Ripperton has been busy working on this album – combining traditional song craft with a more familiar rhythmical style.

“A Little Part Of Shade is about the part of shade that everyone has. It's about the private garden; it’s quite the opposite of Niwa. It's an inside garden. It can be bright or dark or in the middle. It can destroy or help you…”

If you weren't convinced of Raphaël Ripperton compositional talent by his debut album, his sophomore release will do the trick. The LP see’s him work alongside a variety of artists including Hemlock Smith, the multi talented writer, graphist and photographer Van Hai, and Germain Umdenstock, whom features on the opening lead track “A Little Part Of Shade”; providing guitar melodies over his carefully constructed landscapes.

Drawing on the collaborative talents from his own highly respected independent Perspectiv label Ripperton’s track “Black Wall” features the vocals of Masaya and succeeds in demanding an almost attentive listen.

The thirteen musically broad and emotionally deep tracks that are included in “A Little Part Of Shade reflect Rippertons approach to electronic music production, song writing attitude, and the sense of emotional delivery that extends far beyond the purview of techno clubs.

I recognised the elements laid quite solely on the original & therefore decided to rearrange things all little. I realised the time signature would suit the a 4/4 so here is the result... my first project for all to witness. Enjoy.

Hot Trax is back with its third release ‘9 Weeks’, from first class female producer Davina. Injecting her sexy and seductive French touch she delivers two distinguished tracks aimed firmly at the dance floor holding onto a classic house vibe yet pushing creative boundaries and showcasing her immaculate production skills.

The A Side ‘9 Weeks’ is a hooky driving groover of a track. Getting heavy rotation from the Jamie Jones it’s proving mainstay of his sets. This is a surefire crowd pleaser. On the flip and ‘Moskitoes Cries’ gets low-slung a dirty, great little vocal fills and stabs effectively punctuate the heavy rolling rhythms to keep them dancing.

Originally from New Caledonia, a French island between Australia and New Zealand, Davina is now resident in Ibiza.  A successful DJ and live performing artist as well as being one of the worlds most in demand music technology tutors, she has recently had several releases on Push Push record, but has delivered a great two tracker on HOTTRAX.

For Sam Walker and Gavin Royce, the question is the fundamental test of their studio output. Simple as it may sound, for this perfectionist pair it’s anything but. Their innate dance floor intuition, combined with years of experience behind the decks, drives them to create music that isn’t just playable — it’s irresistible.

First introduced by way of New York City's early-aughts dance music scene, Sam Walker and Gavin Royce first teamed up for a remix in 2011. The duo found early success on tastemaker labels like Crosstown Rebels, OFF Recordings, and Moda Black, scoring an Essential New Tune nod from Pete Tong with 2014’s “Sister.”  The indie dance and deep house sounds that informed Walker & Royce’s earliest work soon gave way to something different. Quirky accents and bouncy synths, previously deeper in the mix, leapt to the forefront, backed by a propulsive new energy. The success of their November 2015 “Bright Lights” remix was a clear indication that they were onto something.

In October 2017, Walker & Royce released their debut album Self Help on Dirtybird, which both showcased and expanded upon their now-signature sound. The guys enlisted numerous vocalists, including Green Velvet, Dances With White Girls, and Sophiegrophy, to make Self Help feel like a packed house party – while leaving no doubt about who was hosting.  Self Help was followed by further experimentation and growth. Sam and Gavin have collaborated with Claude Vonstroke, Ardalan, Chris Lake and VNSSA just to name a few as well as remixed Channel Tres, LP Giobbi, The Knocks, Justin Jay, Gorgon City, Mindchatter; and put out music on Relief, Black Book, HotBOi Records and more. Their Rave Grave EP was the inaugural release on Diplo’s house-focused imprint Higher Ground.  Continuing to push boundaries, they have launched their own label Rules Don’t Apply Records, with the ethos just as the name states…No Rules, just good music.

Walker & Royce have spent years honing in on their one-of-a-kind style, meticulously crafting the sounds they want their fans to hear in clubs, at festivals and in their headphones. The result is a cohesive, career-defining body of work that firmly places the duo at the forefront of dance music's future.
