I wrote this up-beat and modern instrumental entitled  "Journey of Life" for my two boys Falconer and Dawson.   The photo's employed in this music video document some of the places and trips that my wife Emma has planned for us as a family.  I hope they remember the good times in life, as it is certainly too short!

MULBERRY HILL GAL tells the story of a guy who gave a country gal a lift one night on Mulberry Hill.  They got a talking and decided to go to a road side bar and both had a great connection and chemistry.  The guy is desperate to find hear and is combing Mulberry Hill to find her to profess his love for her.

Mulberry Hill Gal is an updated and reworked version of my very first song I ever wrote back in 1982.  I would like to dedicate this song to the memory of my dear friend Mr. Danny Arseneau who passed away on June 17, 2000 at the age of 38 years due to a tragic accident in his home.  Danny and I went to high school together in Chateauguay, Quebec and also attended Dawson College together for a while.  Danny later joined the Canadian Armed Forces.  
We would spend hours in our basements playing our guitars and "making noise" as our parents called it.  We actually entered my song and played it at a music talent show held at Dawson College.  It was very well received by the crowd of students and we actually won a prize for best original song.  What a great audience and time.  Hope you enjoy!

THERE'S A SPANISH TRAIN is perhaps the darkest and eeriest country-rock song ever written I would argue, because it tells the story of a ghost train that first travels east and then heads below carrying lost souls. Once you’re on board they won't let you go! My dad was a civil engineer with Canadian National Railway, designed many bridges, tunnels, stations, etc. Later in his career, he was involved with investigating deadly and tragic train accidents across Canada. A Spanish Train was lingo used by railway men for a doomed train that meet with a horrible accident and the loss of lives. This is context and inspiration for this song. I hope you enjoy. This song is dedicated to the memory of my father Valer S. Bartfay who passed away on Feb. 28, 2022.

BALL AND CHAIN tells the story of being in a controlling relationship with double standards and lies when it comes to love and the realization that it's time to break-free and move- on with one’s life.

3 COME TOGETHER (RADIO VERSION)

“You’re My Beautiful” is a love song I wrote for my wife Emma, to mark three significant milestones in her life. First, I wanted to give her a unique and special gift from my heart in the form of a love song for her birthday.   Second, Emma took early retirement in August 2023 from academia and research and was a professor of epidemiology at Ontario Tech University (OTU) in Oshawa, Ontario. We have taught at various institutions together over the years including Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, University of Windsor and most recently at OTU. We were passionate about teaching; have both received teaching awards and have co-published five textbooks related to public health together over the years.  Emma has recently released her first fantasy novel (Emma P. Shan) entitled “Ozia: When the Sky Tore” and plans on writing additional novels. We have also worked not only as partners in marriage, but also in research related to various noncommunicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and dementia.  Third, Emma is a breast cancer survivor, and this December will mark the 10th anniversary of her victory over this deadly disease.

"You're My Beautiful" is a collaboration between myself and Stephen Wrench, who wrote this beautiful instrumental and did the acoustic guitar performance.  It also features 5 times nominated Grammy artist Molly Cherryholmes on violin. On January 8,  2024 it hit No. 1 on the Euro Indie Network Music ranking and was No. 1 World Indie Network Top 100 Music list. You can’t get her off your mind. You can’t sleep. You can’t eat. Even drinking a bottle of whiskey hasn’t helped. You just need to be with her. “Borrowed Time” is a song about the cowboy way of life that is slowly disappearing.  The cowboy lifestyle, pasters, and farmlands across North America are slowly disappearing due to urban growth and development. For example, when I moved to Oshawa, Ontario in 2005, there were several cattle farms and the famous Windfield Farm that was only a five-minute walk from our home.  Windfield Farms was formally home to Canada's leading thoroughbred stallions including Northern Dancer that won the Kentucky Derby in 1964, and the Preakness Stakes.  My boys when they were young lads could feed the horses carrots through the fence.  Today, these farms and ranches have largely disappeared and have been replaced by high-rises, multi-story condo’s, townhouses, shopping centers and graffiti that never exists in the country. Real horses have now been replaced with steel static statues that you see in the music video.  This song is tribute to the cowboy legacy and lifestyle in North America and being wild and free.

This is a really fun and upbeat country song which tells the story of an encounter that took place one night with a beautiful blonde gal with curls on Cherry Hill. She needed a tow and this guy in a country band helped her out. They get talking and decide to go to a bar to loosen their souls and an erotic magical encounter transpires. The guy can’t get this beautiful girl out of his mind, and he searches for her until the break the dawn. 
 On December 9, 2024, this song hit No.1 on the Euro Indie Network music Chart lists.  On November 25, 2024 is was also No. 2 on the Euro Indie Network music chart list. This song was produced by Wayne Killus of Musik and Film and mastered by Robyn Robbins who was founding member of Bob Seger's- The Silver Bullet Band. “Wrote This Song To Say Goodbye Girl” by Wally Bartfay and Stephen Wrench tells the story of a breakup message written in the form of a recorded song. He knew this girl since they were high school sweethearts, moved in together, and had lots of good times together over the years. However, he discovers via text messages on his girlfriend’s phone that she has been fooling around behind his back and has betrayed their relationship, trust and hi-jacked their love. After careful thought and some serious drinking, he decides to pack-up his truck and leave her the next day. He writes and records a break-up song to let her know how he feels about her betrayal in this relationship. Dr. Wally Bartfay is a retired Professor and former Associate Dean (August, 2024) for the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.  He was also affectionately known as the “Rock N’ Prof” by his students because he often played original songs that he has written prior to the commence of lectures to create certain vibes and buzzes in his classes. His music has appeared on Euro Indie Music Chart lists top 1; World Indie Music Chart lists top 1 and 2; BWNR music list top 5, and the US Top 20 Show- Weekly Pulse of Music at No. 18. Ever since Wally was a little lad, he wanted to play the electric guitar and make music that creates smiles on people’s faces. He can remember playing his imaginary electric "air guitar" in his parents’ basement to various rock and country songs for hours on end. He got his first guitar when he turned 14 after taking on various odds jobs including pumping gas on weekends and cutting lawns.  He quickly learned to play it on his very own, along with several other instruments. Wally has also done research related to the benefits of music therapy as a nonpharmacological intervention with patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.  He got interested in researching the clinical benefits of music as medicine after his father was diagnosed with vascular dementia following a series of strokes that left him bed bound in a nursing home.  Ironically, this is the same nursing home that he used to put on volunteer Christmas concerts for during his youth in his community. He is passionate about song writing and his songs often reflect personal experiences and challenges that he has faced over the years. Each song contains components of his genuine lived experiences, heart, and soul as an artist.
