Air Bag Live was a 1985 three night audio collaboration for a sculpture installation by Walter at the Martin Weber Gallery in San Francisco. They called 911 and hosed off the smoking debris. This is what remained.

Rick’s head was an incessant blur of hair, Zorch made up Bach fugues as he went along and Walter entered a musical twilight zone between sarcasm and death. Imagine 3 guys who have been gestated and grown to full size in big green nutrient bottles, being decanted and given musical instruments with a 110 volt wall socket..

Cog Dis hosted a big all day jam at their salami packing plant studio on Grace St. alley in San Francisco. Players came and went, beer and Cheetos were consumed, revolutionary harmonic discoveries changed the face of contemporary music forever. Twangy and meandering then choppy and irritable then insistent and foreboding then bluesey and intimate then crosseyed and spastic and as predictable as an elevator full of bowling balls opening onto a lobby of fez-hatted Shriners.

Walter Alter worked as a painter, sculptor, poet and experimental noise musician with several ensembles in San Francisco during the 1980's.  The improvised music posted on SoundCloud was the band Ear Nerve's only digitally recorded studio session created with an eclectic array of audio signal generators and processors culled from pawn shops and debris boxes that were constantly replaced and upgraded as they were destroyed during Ear Nerve's many energetic and unpredictable performances.  The musical objective was simply to see what the gear would do while making it fit together, sort of.  The various free form "melody lines" gyre and gimbal through a timbral landscape shaped only by imagination and the capabilities of the various circuitries involved.  We did it for the fun of it, and it was.
