"You don't sound like anyone else," said Danny Thompson - renowned bass player for Nick Drake and Joe Strummer - about English musician Conil.

The GRAMMY-winning engineer for Tom Waits and Elvis Costello, Tchad Blake said: "Strange Part of the Country is an awesome album! I still listen to it."

Fleetwood Mac legend Peter Green liked Conil's music so much he stopped by Conil’s house to record with him. They recorded a version of Conil's homage to the jazz greats "Round Midnight". 

Strange Part of the Country never conformed to any current trends and has remained timeless. Now, people are discovering this album and it is becoming an all-time favourite. 

When the album was released in the UK, it received some amazing press. Britain's biggest selling music monthly Q magazine gave it: "Four stars - Q Recommends". Blues Matters magazine wrote: "One of the most original artists out there". In the next issue, Blues Matters put him on the front cover.

Conil left London after Strange Part of the Country was released and has spent the last ten years living in the United States and Europe - including New Orleans, New York City, and Berlin.

One day I hope to get some collaborations going and a far off dream is to re awaken all these tracks in a live environment with a live band and maybe even a live audience. For now the dream keeps me going. Thanks for listening.

I'm trying to use as much real instrumentation as possible: a Taylor and a Norman acoustic guitars, a Fender Strat Roadhouse that goes out of tune if I even look at it, a cheap Vintage mandolin that hurts to play and listen to, an 80 year old zither banjo that screams 'I was never destined for this' and a borrowed Aria Pro II bass that a friend can never be bothered to take home on the bus. Synths are a plasticky Roland FA06 and a fun but dumb Korg minilogue. Throw in some Native Instruments software primarily for smoochy piano and strings, a £15 melodica full of tramp spit, some harps in impossible tunings, and a box of percussion and assorted prehistoric flints (are you really still reading this??). 

All recorded on Logic Pro X on an ancient iMac that is going to explode any minute and take my entire oeuvre with it. And most likely burn the house down.

Most of my songs are dark, personal and emotional. I don't like complaining or bringing people down with me in everyday life so most of it ends up in my songs. No one will ever fully understand us because we won't experience the same blessings/misfortunes. In that sense we're alone although ironically also together in our shared pain.(I like to think we're always connected to something more) Hopefully we can feel less alone by relating to music. I've been writing poetry since I was around age 9, freestyling rap since 14, making beats since 2014 and marrying all 3 into full songs since 2015. I'm a recovering addict. Growing up, Mom was on drugs. My parents split up when I was six. Luckily I have the best Father ever. He raised me and my brother for the most part. Bro is doing great! <3 But we all have our struggles... I've known pain all too well since the beginning. I had 2 major surgeries as a kid. There was other trauma and abuse as a child which probably partly led to some self destructive/medicating behavior. I was an outcast/loner in highschool. It's all in the music. I rap, sing and scream over instrumentals that usually I made - or someone else in the rarer case - If the latter I always give credit and use strictly for non profit...
