Wanted to celebrate the last Wednesday of this week with a piano track. So I improvised a little bit on just a few chords. Imagine how great this track would have been with more chords and more than just 61 keys! Anyway I hope you like it.

The Promised Land

Oliver originally sent me his piano track for this tune back in September (3 months ago) and at the time I was very busy and did not have a chance to work on it.

Then another couple of tracks arrived and it was almost forgotten about until now!

Whilst I had some time off work I was working on various musical projects and re-discovered this track 'New Project 100918' and loaded it into my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). I listened a couple of times and heard some melodies in my head, which I recorded using some orchestral strings and harmonising guitars. I then added the choir, timpani and ended with a gong - finally adding some drums at Oliver's suggestion.

Oliver's original piano idea had become quite an epic and deserved a suitably epic title, so I called it The Promised Land (evoked by the biblical epic films of Cecil B De Mille).

wow. WOW. It is released. It has been "finished".

This has been one of the most challenging and rewarding collaborations to date. Interesting as *thommo* (https://soundcloud.com/thommo_tunes) was the first person I ever collaborated with over soundcloud. Our first track "Alchemy" kind of just fell together within weeks.  4am not only took over a year but has 3 very different versions.   The first version was 6 minutes long, very fast and the lyrics were much darker.  The second had the same lyrics but the beat was much different. 
*thommo* and I started going in different directions and we both kind of threw our hands up. My communication dropped off due to life changes. *thommo* every now and then would send a message reflecting on wanting to revisiting the track but I was consumed with a far different life than I was living the first time we collaborated. 

However, *thommo* kept pushing on this track and eventually sent me the first draft of this newest version and all of the excitement and passion jumped alive. It was the best of what both of us saw the tracks potential as.  

So HERE WE ARE! Full circle with our completed collaboration ready for your listening enjoyment.  From EllE of Cycle of Hands and *thommo* we bring you:

I shot my second piano performance on video. With a little effort on the part of the video shoot, the image quality has improved a bit.
If you think about it, this video is precious. It captures the moment when something from me from heaven comes down to me as a source of music. I convert it into sound, convert it into a combination of sounds, and then into music. That moment is only in my hand, but it is recorded in this video. It is strange when you think about it. As always, just like the wind, like a cloud, like a stream of water, a natural improvisation. I hope you enjoy this video.

To mark this year’s 88th day and as an acknowledgement to these unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in, Piano Day founder, pianist and producer Nils Frahm releases a collection of eight solo piano pieces titled 'Empty'.

Conceived of just before Nils broke his thumb and composed the similarly intimate solo piano album 'Screws', 'Empty' is a soothing vessel of eight simple and serene pieces originally recorded as the music to a short art film he shot with his friend and film director Benoit Toulemonde. Drifting through emotions from the stark and sobering opener 'First Defeat', to the gently euphoric 'No Step On Wing' and the contemplative but hopeful closer 'Black Notes', with its poignant minute of silence, 'Empty' is a comforting score for these turbulent times.

“When I came back from the hospital with a broken thumb and listened to the recordings, I felt they were unfinished. I decided to put them aside and started to work on my small album, 'Screws'. 

Many many other notes of the piano have been struck since these days, and before we all forget about this, I thought it would be a good moment to share these lullabies with you. I hope they help you stay all strong and calm in these days of solitude – despite the hardship, we can discover introspection and reflection unexpectedly. Who knows what it is good for.

Church In The Lake

Hot beats and synths to enliven those living the 'locked in' experience. 

I recently saw videos of cities with wild animals entering as if they are at home. The ozone's condition is said to have improved. Some have commented that the sky view from their city apartments seems to be more blue during the slowing of industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. 
A pandemic is not a time for joy, but an optimist maintains hope. The earth's current 'healing' appears to be a silver lining that helps to fuel that hope.
