Ace Up My Sleeve Records is a label for sophisticated, energetic and powerful Techno music. The extremely innovative concept of this label is shaped by the fact, that none of the tracks released here have been written and produced for this label… All tracks being released on Ace Up My Sleeve Records are productions, that artists kept in secret for a long time, hiding on hard drives, test pressings or dubplates. Finally, those stompers can be heard by a big audience!

We shall start with a heavyweight of German Techno - Daniel Stefanik! The album title, as you might know, means “through hardships to the stars”, and that is precisely Wareika’s motto. You could say, that the trio from Hamburg is the hardest working bunch in the music business. Only last year, they released two albums straight: “Formation” on the Danish boutique label Tartelet Records, and “Harmony Park” on worldwide respected Perlon Records. The enormous output by the trio is reminiscent of jazz musicians of the 60ties.

Wareika have released several singles and have done some astonishing remix work within the past three years. Therefore, their collection of ten remixes, or better, reworked and interpreted songs, will give you a fine impression of how Wareika have elaborated their unique sound over the past four years.

To involve Alex Flitsch of Connaisseur Recordings was self-evident for the band. They started out on his label, made several remixes for it, and contributed tracks to the Grand Cru compilation. This also made it a matter of course to feature the exclusive remix of Connaisseur-act Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s “Tristesse” on this album. In order to give it even more of a proper album feel, Wareika have delivered an intro and outro, making this collection sound more balanced and harmonious.

In the Tirio Indian village of Kwamala (Suriname), deep in the Amazon rain forest, Kamanya
lay in his hammock, burning with fever. His mother sat nearby fanning him. “Kamanya,
Kamanya,” she whispered, but he did not answer. She spoke gently to her husband. “It is time.
Take him.” He picked up the boy and carried him to the hut of the shaman—the medicine man.
Softly chanting, the shaman Nahtahlah disappeared into the forest. The returned with leaves,
roots, and bark, which he put into a pot of water boiling on the fire. Stirring and singing, he
asked the sickness to leave the boy. Then Nahtahlah removed the pot from the fire, and when
the mixture had cooled he lifted Kamanya’s head and p
oured the warm medicine into the boy’s mouth. The shaman’s song ended as night came. Kamanya’s parents sat beside him until morning. When the boy awoke, the fever was gone. As the years passed, Kamanya would remember the shaman’s ritual as if it were all a dream. But he never forgot that the shaman saved his life.

Leonor was hurled headlong flaming from the ethereal sky. This is his first offering for
Shango Records.  These three tracks will have you questioning your existence. DBRA, Feller and Rabih Rizk know the answer about the existence of life.

On the one side there is the Zindagi, a Hindustani word of Persian origin which means ‘life’. For Buddhist people this is the endless cycle of personal reincarnations, each characterised by individual choices resulting in joy and suffering. According to that ancient culture, each choice we make marks the path to the next reincarnation. On the other hand there is the Nirvana, which is the freedom from that endless cycle, the extinction of individual passion, hatred, and delusion: finding the peace of soul and rejecting the concept of self.
The delicate equilibrium between selfness and its rejection was the inspiring force for @katabtu to produce his ethereal EP. This comprises two original tracks titled Nirvana and Zindagi, accompanied
by three powerful remixes by @danbaymusic, @ackssek, and @jati_div.
Katabtu is part of a music collective named ‘@kollektiv-liebe’, whose purpose is raising funds for social projects by means of musical events and releases. Such a valuable and selfless decision taken by the collective resonate with the theme of the Nirvana EP, and to the importance of individual choices. Just like they affect the cycle of reincarnations in the Buddhist culture, daily individual choices affect our immediate future, and the future of our societies. A chain of hardly predictable events is activated every moment. Thus, every moment we live and act altruistically, we have the chance to care about others, about nature, about the world we live in. Mind small choices, tame the
self. Doing so, Zindagi and Nirvana may meet in the quotidianity.
