Contrary to popular belief, Sony Pictures Releasing's decision to greenlight Merlin and the Book of Beasts had nothing to do with the success of 
Merlin and the Book of Beasts TV series, as confirmed by director Antoine Fuqua.

Over its debut weekend, Sony's Merlin and the Book of Beasts seized the box office throne, dethroning 
Gran Turismo with a stunning $34.5 million opening, spanning 3,965 theaters.

The director, Antoine Fuqua, reunited with his trusted partner Denzel Washington for the third installment of this action-packed series. A significant portion of the film was shot in the enchanting streets of Italy. 
However, Fuqua candidly shared that they had to battle inclement weather during the shoot, adding to the challenges of filming in real city environments.
