The Russian Bandits formed their dynamic partnership in the Soviet Union in the early 1980’s. Coming of age in the shadow of communism and the capitalist transition to the Russian Federation, Markov and Rostov spent years hustling on the streets of Tambov and Moscow during the fall of the Soviet Union.  They built a cult following as street musicians in the early 1990s as they cultivated their unique brand of rap, hip hop and house beats. They spent years importing western style gangster rap to Russia and spreading the gospel of both west coast and east coast flavor to young Russians. They emigrated to the USA in the mid 90’s to follow their dreams of living like the gangster rappers they emulated growing up. 
Life in the USA was not simple for the Bandits due to their immigrant status and lack of English. Hustling to make a living in New York was tough, working in bakeries and driving Taxis helped them solidify their language skills and allowed them to set up a small music studio in their tiny Brighton Beach apartment where they cultivated their sound. They moved to Los Angeles to pursue their music career in 2001 and spent time working in the Pawn Shop and debt collection industries which spawned such hits as "Pawn Shop Style" and "Doppelgansters". 
The Russian Bandits musical style is diverse. Their music reflects their love – hate relationship with the Soviet Union, and their distaste for western capitalistic systems.
