Entirely composed of manipulations of a field recording of filling a kettle, boiling it, then making a cup of tea.

The recording was loaded into several instances of Ableton's Simpler sampler. One track was created using Simpler's Slice function. The results of this were sent to a group of ApulSoft ApQualizr's each narrowly bandpassing a group of frequencies determined by ear. This was repeated with another track using different frequencies. The results were additionally ducked and filtered.

Another track used pitched versions of a section of the original recording and these were passed through Albedo and convolution reverbs.  A further track was a snipped sample from the original recording played through Ableton's Wavetable synthesizer with the table position being modulated by an envelope based on the synth's output.

These tracks were then variously panned, filtered, compressed and volume-automated to create the final track.

This contains a sample of an olive oil bottle being filled from a full sink of water. It created an interesting rhythm that I felt could be used in a track. So I guess this falls into the sample I've been putting off using. I've also been bothered by not allowing enough space in my tracks—so this was also an attempt at minimalism. Not sure if I fully realised that goal.

Here I added a Spitfire Audio LABS London Atmos (2 on the Plaform) track and a bass track with a patch on the  KarmaFX software modular. These were sidechained with the original recording and passed through a couple of wave folders to give them grit.

This is a half-speed, dictaphone recording of the CEGAD C6/9 chord affected by Arturia Fragments along with various versions of the tape recording and a patch I made several years ago, for the KarmaFX modular, attempting to recreate the sound of the alien spacecraft from Gerry Anderson's UFO TV series. These gradually fade to leave two KORG ARP Odyssey and two Arturia Augmented Voices to provide the slumber chord.

Each track was slowed to 30bpm. I left Analoc's track intact, then chopped and changed Melondruie's, and Fake Genius' tracks to suit. All the sounds in the recording come from these three tracks.

A self-generating patch on semi-modular and modular and sent through a spring reverb before being recorded into Ableton. There, the 'melody' was converted to MIDI using Ableton's built-in converter. Both them melody and MIDI were then played at half-speed. The melody was forced into the Lydian mode, and played with Reason Studios' Objekt. At the same time, Objekt was being resonated by the original recording (pitch processed into Lydian), via its sidechain channel. The resultant combination was then processed with the Remants granular delay, a Valhalla Supermassive delay, and the Wavesfactory Echo Cat tape delay simulation.

Here, each voice is put in shadow by its own harmonic filter. The sounds passed through are those that represent the edge, or umbra, that remains once the sound has been largely blocked by the harmonic filter. There are numerous voices that come and go, in addition, the filter lessens as the middle of the track is reached and increases again as the track ends. This represents the sun's travel through the sky as the day progresses.

Recordings of the BART, recorded in San Francisco's Powell Street Station, manipulated with AudioThing's Noises, then modulated repeatedly using Cableguys' Shaperbox. All the Shaperbox modulations used  the barcode from a packet of Walker's Shortbread Fingers to define the gates. These, depending on the effect, are then stretched between 1/16 and 32 bars.

Using an envelope follower following the earlier two tracks, I separately recorded, on my modular, a sine wave and a distorted square wave. These were then further manipulated in Ableton. In addition, an instance of Audio Damage's, Phosphor 3 was added playing a MIDI extraction of the square wave's output.
