With the reopening of clubs and festivals, Avidus present their debut EP for Oddity, loaded with tracks ready for the dancefloor.

The lead track,  Prometheus , is a weapon for the peak time of the set. Full of catchy groove, a synth hook that characterizes their productions, which slowly adds tension to the construction of the track, leading into a break full of melodies and chords that will give you goosebumps.

The second cut, Clavigo , is characterized by a melody that resembles an arpeggio, throughout the whole track, with darker stab sounds appearing and complementing the development of this one. The pads and chords that characterize Avidus appear during the break, filling us with emotions throughout the rest of the track.

Wanderer's Nightsong" is the next one, where the identity of Avidus is reflected instantly from the first play. A very catchy synth, crunchy sounds, and percussions that play between each other, creating an
atmosphere of a danceable trip. Always adding their beautiful textures and chord progressions further in the track, giving a breath of fresh air and emotions.

For the remix duties, the French brothers, Betical, approach reworking  Wanderer's Nightsong” into a breaks track. Using elements of the original, reworking it into their own version and adding new synths and elements that create a beautiful remix.

Jos & Eli return for their second outing on Watergate with esteemed vocalist Alex Clare, as they follow up last year’s outstanding Mozar EP.

The Israeli pair possess a distinct sound signature, crafting beautiful dancefloor creations, imbued with chunky percussion and sonic inflections from their homeland. ‘Mayhem’ EP sees them at their beguiling best.

‘Inner Sky’ is characterised by flowering synths that bloom and recede in giddying formations, backed up with a heady array of noises which buzz in the background, all the while a steady groove is maintained throughout. Afterlife wunderkind Stephan Jolk is recruited for remixing duties and brings swells of dreamy melody and subtle washes of Balearic to Jos & Eli’s original. 

A name familiar to many after his single ‘Too Close’ was nominated for a BRIT award in 2011, Alex Clare blesses the EP with his vocals on ‘Mistake’. Driven by a gutsy guitar-driven bottom end that gives the composition a distinct Americana vibe, it’s a cut big on vibes that’s begging to be played at a dusty festival as the sun sets over the horizon. The title track ‘Mayhem’ rounds out the four-track package, a persistent synapse-tickling synth driving the track throughout.

In "Faniola" you'll find nostalgic grooves from the past and electronic glitchy sounds with again robotic vocals that define the track, get ready to jump into a time machine. 'Guess who’s back...? Ditian steps back into the fold for TAU with a fresh batch of music that epitomises the label’s eclectic outlook. Over time TAU has come to represent a difficult-to-define sonic identity and Ditian’s Chaos Is Order EP fits in perfectly with the label’s sound. Ditian has been a busy bee over the past year, with his music picking up strong support from Innervisions. Now he’s back with the TAU family and he’s gifted us with four powerful cuts, ready to ensnare the dance floor.

We begin with the title track. In a world where chaos reigns, perhaps it’s time we all accepted chaos as a form of order?... With this cut Ditian enchants the listener using sombre timbres and a hypnotising melody. As jaunty notes dance above the moody low end, the beats pump and shakers add movement. A brief breakdown sends us into the twisted main body of the track, where the atmosphere is intensified. Ditian careful- ly nudges this cut to its final conclusion with plenty of detail and a persistent rhythm that keeps a tight grip until the very end.

Next up is ‘Insignia’, an ominous cut that oozes menace from the start. Slowly but surely the tension increases, giving way to a drama-fueled motif. A break halfway allows a short breather, before we head back into the wilderness. Ditian creates a small but significant shift, altering the course of the track while maintaining the overall feeling. His dexterity is on show throughout this cut, which merges dark moods and irresistible energy in a powerful combination.

Then we have ‘Rebel Stigma’, a brooding track that features a simple yet highly effective riff alongside excellent drum programming. Again, Ditian’s production abilities can be heard loud and clear as he steps away from the traditional dance floor template to create his own unique sound. This cut’s power lies in its simplicity, every element serves a purpose, none of them overcooked or overused.

And to close the EP it’s ‘Wildflower’. Like the rest of the EP, the use of drums and hypnotic rhythms and melodies give the track its distinct char- acter. After a short breakdown we begin to traverse the deep murky waters of this intoxicating cut. This one is bound to put the dance floor into a trance when played, as that spellbinding main melody plays out, the beats stomp and the alluring atmosphere all conspire to grip you from start to end.'

Neopolitan juggernaut Sasha Carassi lands at Renaissance…

Italy has unparalleled dance heritage; the Italo sound reaches back over 40 years and was formative to British house culture back in the day. Jump to the present and its influence remains as strong as ever, perhaps even more so. It’s been an incubator to some of the biggest, most exciting DJs and producers on the planet in recent years, which includes current shining star, Sasha Carassi.

Sasha arrives at Renaissance on an absolute tear. His CV includes Diynamic, Drumcode, Bedrock, Atlant and IAMHER, with whom he recently topped the Beatport Indie dance charts. Heat doesn’t come close to describing it.

His ‘Invain’ three-track EP certainly won’t put a dent in that trajectory. It’s further confirmation of his flourishing-status and amazing ability to unite styles. “I produce with no particular scheme or genre in mind,” he explains, “I just keep my eye on the dancefloor.”

Title-track ‘Invain’ is a collaboration with fellow Neopolitan Davide Celiento aka Kendah, who provides a modish, infectious vocal. Both describe the record as, “A song of inspiration. It’s about escape, connection and mutual support following a highly uncertain period.” Presented as two versions, trainspotters may take particular joy in the ‘Galvatron Dub’, which pays title-homage to the late Angel Moraes’ ‘Heaven Knows’, a Renaissance classic if ever there was one.

Closing out the EP is ‘Desert Drop’, a deeper, club-driven affair designed to keep emerging dancefloors firmly in its sights and ‘Pathos’, an emotive breakbeat track that brings a real sense of variety to proceedings. “That one isn’t just for DJ sets and I do hope it crosses over in that sense. It’s deliberately introspective,” he concludes.

Munich's Benjamin Fröhlich, co-founder of the Permanent Vacation label, takes his turn on one of the most influential tracks in electronic music: "How Much Are They?"

Originally released in 1981 on the album “Full Circle”, "How Much Are They?" is a genre defying collaboration between Dub wizard Jah Wobble and Can's Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay. With the combination of Dub elements, punk bassline and drum machine percussion the track is a blueprint for electronic music and ahead of its time in many ways. No surprise, it quickly became a staple in clubs from New York to Berlin.

Through the years the track was a big inspiration for Benjamin. His careful cover version updates "How much are They" for today's dancefloors, while maintaining the original atmosphere. Originally his version was part of LAGASTA's 10-year anniversary compilation. Now it gets the official release and finds the perfect home in Glasgow's Optimo Music imprint backed up with two remixes by Chicken Lips and Daniel Bortz. 

Andrew Meecham and  Dean Meredith revive their Chicken Lips moniker, that was responsible for a whole movement of Disco-Dub in the early to mid 2000's, and prove that they haven't lost any of the magic. German wonder boy Daniel Bortz reinvents himself and comes up with a heavy bass-driven version that sits somewhere between Jungle, Dub and early Techno. Ok, let's go!
