Sixth Avenue Express have been gathering a lot of momentum recently with their mid tempo, emotionally charged productions striking a note with a larger and larger audience. While they have put out releases across a plethora of labels their home has always been at House of Disco Records and thats where SAE is now releasing their next solo EP titled 'I See'. Full of the clever touches and the warmth you've come to expect from them this EP delivers on every front.

The first, and title, track 'I See' sets the perfect tone, a breezy warm track to seduce to. With a haunting vocal and soft strings coupled with woozy base line its the driving keys that turn this track from a lullaby to confidently invigorating and fresh experience.

Second on the release and most dance floor friendly is 'Clandestine' and like the name suggests is best listened in a secretive and illicit location, like a sweaty basement party. This track is laden with the trademark chords that pepper a lot of Sixth Avenue Express productions but its strength lies in its amazing vocal treatments, which shift and grow to an epic level.

'There's No Time' acts a a decompression chamber after a night out, the perfect after party choice. With enough melody to remain positive but a hint of a dark soul 'There's no time' is as alluring as it is fun.

Finally there's 'My Love is Alive' which is the most joyous and optimistic track to see out the release. It brims with full keys, sustained strings and strong vocals. Ending on a high this tracks message is affirming on two fronts, and affirmation of love and an affirmation of the timeless nature of this release.

The next release on Light my Fire comes courtesy of Zurich’s Fat Sushi, who recently impressed with their ‘My Place’ EP on Off Recordings. On ‘Hypnotic’ the duo presents three resourceful club tracks consisting of elastic bass lines, epic breaks and a good pinch of humour to keep it fresh.

‘Problems’ is crafted for the peak time: areal synths chase over a plump bed of bass, elevated by a looped guitar riff and sweet vocal hooks. Next, ‘Hypnotic’ sways through the night, lighting up the dance floor with feel-good vibes. Stefan Mint, who has previously release on Groove On, takes the track’s title quite literal and delivers a hypnotic tech house remix made for the wee hours. Great stuff! Lastly, we are treated to a healthy portion of 80s power, as ‘What You Need’ combines retro synths with modern house sounds.

The single «Stargaze» is a debut appearance for Sunn Jellie in на лейбле Intricate Cuts, although the attentive followers of the label have already noticed the original version in the tracklist of Intricate Records’ special compilation issued by the time of the label family’s participation in the annual Amsterdam Dance Event music conference in late 2013. Besides that, quite a long time ago the Ukrainian producer did a remix of «Two Worlds» by Sergey Tkachev and also managed to get featured in the Christmas 2014 sampler of the Russian progressive label. This frenzied activity of course became noticed by the label audience and team, as a result a full-featured single by the artist will see the light of day on Intricate Cuts. The original production, «Stargaze», is a slow-motion dreamy audio-mantra which sends the listener to the far edges of the galaxy into an impressively long journey. The happy people were so glad to hear this track – they made a special fan-video consisting of sci-fi movies, automotive footage and magnificent images of the night sky shot using the timelapse technology. The remixes by the Dutch trio Envotion and Russian musician Cosmonaut are a slightly different story which is about more dancefloor-friendly sound and adjusted higher tempo. Every participant involved put a special touch on «Stargaze» through the prism of the own sound: Envotion have built a soft progressive track while Cosmonaut combined the main theme with a livelier techno beat.

Once again Life and Death presents an assemblage of some of today’s finest artists with a Various Artists release of such high quality that it could have easily stood out as distinct and separate releases. But together these producers and their contributions combine to create something even greater than the sum of their parts. A story assembled from different voices that slowly builds from Sei A’s opening Muladhara-centered “Hyper Venom” and takes off from there, following the path of these musical Mahatmas as they riff on various states of elevation. 

Following Sei-A’s opener is Locked Groove’s shift to the Undenary with “Eleven”, a triumphant score for the everyman’s ascent. From there, the ever adept Scuba comes strong with “Glacial”, a deep track that shifts focus back and forth between both what lies below the surface and what climbs above it. And then, finishing the rise upward is Alex.Do’s expertly woven “Rising” which delivers on the promise that its title offers, never backing down and moving ever onwards and upwards even in its final rising tones.

Ecid is a kamikaze visionary: an artist with an all or nothing approach to every aspect of his art and life. Ambitious almost to a fault with an “us against them” DIY mentality, Ecid has self-booked, self released, and self-made his own movement. Ecid doesn’t try to sell you on any one way of life, he only sells you on the idea that you can live however you want. A Minneapolis native and a participant in the Twin Cities hip hop scene since 2003, all three of Ecid’s most recent releases have charted on the College Music Journal’s Hip Hop Top 40 chart. Collaborating with the likes of Eyedea, Awol One, and Kristoff Krane along the way, his smashing new album, Werewolf Hologram, is destined to make even bigger waves.
Ecid pushes the limits of sampling, it’s not so much what he samples, it’s what he does with every note. Pitch shifting and chopping every sample to the point of no return, slapping together psych-rock vocal chops with 808 booms and hand claps, then adding more layers of drum breaks, and echo heavy guitars. Inspired by the duality in humanity, Werewolf Hologram tackles heavy thought provoking topics that really dig into your head. The hooks explode: layer upon layer of melodies evoking color and nostalgia. Ecid brings you into a new world, his world. With a knack for slap stick, smarty pants, one liners that make us smile while shaking our heads in disbelief. His voice is full of charm and just enough personal triumph and tragedy so you believe every word. Werewolf Hologram is an album fueled by the loss of a friend and men- tor, a computer crash, and the realization that nothing, not even plastic, is meant to last.
