This is just a 'playlist' of stuff I found in the cloud that I like (in no particular order). The purpose of this set is to show you how diverse my taste is. And what kind of stuff I may spin/produce myself?


I'm always interested in unique sound even if I don't love an entire track or the entire part of a track. I often listen more to instrumentation than vocals, but of course I'm obsessed with creative lyrics like the rest of us. I could rant for a while about all the ways I see music, but let the music speak for me instead.

Upon returning to the States, Waajeed was mentored by late Slum Village rapper and producer James Yancey, better known to the world as J Dilla. Inheriting an MPC 2000 from Yancey, he began producing on his own, recording some of his first songs with fellow Detroiters Elzhi and Dwele, and contributing heavily to Slum Village’s Trinity album in wake of Yancey’s departure from the group. In 2001, he established his own imprint, the Bling47 Group, while a quest for Drum Crazy break LP distribution in Detroit led to a recording deal with Ubiquity Records and the formation of the Platinum Pied Pipers (PPP) with Darnell “Saadiq” Bolden. 
In 2003, PPP released its debut “Ridin’ High”/“Open Your Eyes” single, and two years later, the full-length Triple P. Triple P, with production contributions from instrumentalists Mystro and Mark de Clive-Lowe, and features from Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Steve Spacek, and hometown MCs Ta’Raach (aka Lacks) and Invincible, earned the duo widespread industry acclaim as well as aided in launching the careers of Georgia Anne Muldrow and Tiombe Lockhart. On Abundance, the 2009 follow-up to Triple P, the talents of up-and-comers Coultrain, Karma Stewart, and Jamila Raegan were on display as Waajeed expanded the group’s sound in reflection of inspiration garnered from countless remix projects, world tours, and collaborations with artists such as Cee-Lo, Estelle, Jazmine Sullivan, Raheem DeVaughn, and Daniel Merriweather. 
2010 and beyond finds Waajeed still in lofty collaborative company, musically (Diddy, Mayer Hawthorne), but also broadening expertise in videography and continuing his work on the lecture circuit, including a four-year relationship with the Red Bull Music Academy and an appearance at the 2010 Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival’s Bodega Education Initiative in support of his mentor and friend, J Dilla. The forthcoming PPP3 album and projects with “Mad” Mike Banks, Karizma, Ana Tijoux, and Invincible are certain to keep the still-emerging producer grounded and on the right path, no matter how much the business of music and its frustrations occasionally threaten to expose rugged, Hockeytown roots.
“I've had dreams about this mix for the last couple years. When 101 Apparel reached out to me about the collab between Bling47 and 101 Apparel it was perfect timing. I was in the middle of working on my newest project called Electric Street Orchestra (ESO). I wanted this mix to follow the same principals as the project, mixing my Detroit techno heritage with beats from a multitude of genres. To find a way to make Rock, Pop, and Hip hop sync with Ghetto tech. After making over 70 edits and two months of intense labor I achieved my goal. Now dance your ass off!”

Pullin from the Stacks - More Jazz 45s!

There was a time when I owned 4-5 copies of Sly Stone's "FRESH" album, it was so vitally important to me. I remember hearing it for the first time in the 90s and it blew my mind. I preached the Sly gospel since to many friends of my age in the years since. That album will always be a cornerstone of musical history and importance to me, and helped me on my record digging journey forward. So many people have covered his songs over the years, in so many funky and creative ways, so I've included a number of those covers on this episode, along with some of my favorite originals of his. RIP the legend Sly Stone, thank you so much for all the beautiful music!

Fulfill your soul and free with your mind with the latest installment of Today’s Good News, crafted specifically for Crate Diggers, in support of Crate Diggers Portland 2017. Inspired by records bought and people met from a recent trip around the world, Rev. Shines takes you on a journey of samples and discovery. This is an all-vinyl mixtape, using records found while on the road this past year.

Rev. Shines is a crate digger in its truest sense; Questlove once announced at a show in Portland, “Rev. Shines built my record collection.” Shines has performed in over 15 countries, is 1/3 of the Hip Hop group Lifesavas whom Rolling Stone Magazine touted as a “Top Band to Watch” in 2007, and DJs the most popular Hip Hop dance party in Portland, “Live and Direct”. His mixtape series, Today’s Good News has a cult following and sells out immediately online and at record stores like Turntable Lab.

While working at the Portland landmark record store, Jump Jump, Shines met and sold records to music legends like the aforementioned Questlove, J.Dilla, and Easy Mo Bee. Most importantly, he met the proverbial king of House music production, Kenny Dope, whom invited him on a world tour, DJing and digging in countries like Japan and Australia.

What does Rev. Shines sound like? A decade crossing beat visionary, inspired by golden era Hip Hop, Southern Gospel singers, and funky Brasilians from the 1970’s. His dynamic live sets simultaneously put smiles on faces, get heads nodding, and suggest feelings of an ever-present coolness.

Hi everybody! I’m very happy to get my friend, the legendary Shuya Okino as guest for my new Show. Deep Jazz music is going strong, and as usual I have selected the best of my new discoveries from 2020

Omer Avital, Village of the Sun with Binker and Moses, the last great Web Web Album on Compost Records and a new extract from the recent Jazz phenomenon: the Jazz is Dead project by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

Some legendaries jazz artists, still active, have produced some great featuring like Gary Bartz, Dee Dee Bridgewater and The Last Poets for our greatest pleasure.

Shuya Okino and me have, of course, both paid small tribute to the music of Bill Withers, who passed away a couple of days before to join for ever the « City of the Angels ».
