Over 60 blistering minutes he takes in all the beats, breaks, samples and spoken word nuggets that made this seminal Bomb Squad production such an explosive release. Amongst the vast stack of tracks in the mix, expect words of wisdom from Louis Farrakhan, exclusive interviews with Hank Shocklee, and all the soul, rock 'n' roll and early rap tracks that went into making up P.E's (if not hip-hop's) finest album. This winning mix is by Buddy Peace, a DJ based in Margate, on the South East Coast of England. "I started my DJ journey all those years ago in 1993, beginning with Hip Hop music which branched out into basically everything I love and play now."

Take a peak into the exclusive material from hip hop pioneer DJ Afrika Bambaataa.  "Mix By Jimmy" features recordings Bambaataa had pressed to acetate for spinning live at shows in the late 70's and early 80's. This mix includes entirely unreleased material along with demo versions of hits like "Looking For The Perfect Beat," "Renegades of Funk" and "Planet Rock. "

Mix By Jimmy

In celebration of the Hip Hop’s 50th year, we’ve teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded Rap music, mixed by Chris Read. Alongside the Hip Hop series, this companion Breaks series takes our re-cap of Rap History a level deeper, this time reconstructing the classics of the Hip Hop canon from their constituent sample material. Arranged chronologically of course, this twelfth (and final) volume pieces together popular Hip Hop tunes from the years of 1998 and 1999, utilising only the Funk, Soul & Jazz tracks from which they were originally constructed – 60 original breaks in the mix! Artwork pays homage to Paul Winley’s iconic ‘Super Disco Brakes’ compilation series.

This mix is also the final mix of the #HIPHOP50 series over all. Thanks for listening!
