King Of The Kingdom Of Man

Following a series of digital singles (The Blonde Leading the Blonde, King of the Kingdom of Man and Hearts Are Made For Beating) and a moment in the national spotlight, having scored the 150th episode of the FOX TV show, American Dad!, Wax Fang takes a wild detour into the far reaches of outer space with THE ASTRONAUT.
This is not your typical album. It is not your typical concept album either. THE ASTRONAUT is a grandiose sonic odyssey flowing seamlessly from each of its three movements to the next like a space shuttle through a psychedelic intergalactic landscape. A space rock opera concerning the fate of a lone space traveler, separated from his vessel, who is then swallowed by a black hole and transformed into a celestial super being, it is an ode to the wonder, the majesty and the horror of the universe.
Scott Carney elegantly tells the tragic tale of THE ASTRONAUT over a cinematic backdrop of heavy psych-pop guitar riffs, swirling synthesizers, acid jazz saxophones, theremin wizardry, and lush string arrangements. Each movement finds Carney expanding his ever increasing palette of voices. Whether he’s crooning a soft, floating melody, shouting like deranged madman, or belting out a Broadway delivery, every word aims to hit the listener like sub atomic particles in the Large Hadron Collider.
The world was treated to a taste of the album when segments of The Astronaut Part 2 and The Astronaut Part 3 were featured on American Dad!. On January 28th, the world will finally see the scope and magnitude of this modern take on space travel. Released through the band’s own Don’t Panic Records, THE ASTRONAUT will be available at all digital outlets, with the vinyl LP and CD available exclusively through the bands website, www.waxfang.com.
With everyone tossing around the word “epic” like it’s nothing these days, it has begun to lose its meaning. Wax Fang hopes to change all of that with THE ASTRONAUT, a truly epic adventure in every sense of the word. So sit back, relax, and prepare to blast off!

Melbourne purveyors of synth-funk, GL are back with all-new single ‘Number One’. 

The track release follows GL's stand-out performance at Splendour In The Grass in July, where Thompson also joined Mark Ronson onstage as part of his live supergroup. The pair emerged as a highlight of Sydney's OutsideIn Festival earlier this month, and promise to do the same again when they take to the stage at Meredith Music Festival this December.

An infectious treat of glowing synths, stratospheric vocals and luxurious neon-lit pop, "Number One" will enchant first time listeners as well as satiate fans of their debut EP ‘Love Hexagon’ in need of a GL fix.

GL - Number One

An unreleased track recorded in 1983 discovered in a dusty corner of the On-U tape archives. Taken from SCIENCE FICTION DANCEHALL CLASSICS, a curated selection of classics, rarities and unreleased tracks from the On-U Sound vaults by DJ & Audio Visual artist Trevor Jackson.

In some ways predicting the electro-fied sound of Neneh’s worldwide pop success with the Raw Like Sushi album, “Dead Come Alive” stems from a mid-80s period when Adrian took a production hiatus from his beloved reggae, deeply upset by the murder of his friend Prince Far I (he would later rekindle the dub flame when the opportunity arose in 1986 to work with hero Lee “Scratch” Perry). Instead he explored the possibilities of new studio technology. Early samplers and drum machines were put through their paces on work for the Tommy Boy label and remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode.

Evaporating

In 2013 there was another reoccurring daydream I often had that will always really stick with me - I still think about it pretty often. In the dream, I would be standing in the middle of a vast expanse with my girlfriend at the time, while she stared into my eyes with this loving, peaceful gaze. The dream always started in such a nice way, but there would always be this heart-dropping moment where she would put her hand on my cheek and I would suddenly squint my eyes and realize that she was very slowly becoming transparent. As I watched in horror, little particles of her would start floating off into the wind, and her skin would seem to ripple. As she faded more and more, her eyes always grew wide and a bright white light would start to shine out of them. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end just thinking about it now. In the dream, I always started grasping at her, trying to hold her with me, but my hands would just phase right through her body. 

The thing is, all the while, there was always this look of transcendence and peace on her face. It gave me this very peculiar feeling - it wasn't just that she was being taken away from me, it was that she was... conceding to it. She was willingly going along with it; like she had caught a glimpse of something far beyond me and she was transcending - moving on to something much larger. 

Regardless of the horror of the situation, as the last parts of her faded, I always felt a calm start to wash over me... this interesting mix of both sad resignation and peaceful understanding. The tranquility that comes from finally accepting loss. I knew she was going on to something so much better, and I was happy for her. That was the strangest part about it - the juxtaposition of such disparate feelings. The day I wrote this song, I woke up with that feeling thick on my mind, and I knew I had to get it out.
