Relive this funky, groovy, disco set brought to you by SELAYNE and Ryan B on a 4 deck set up,  featuring DJ Smoothie on the saxophone and special guest Michael Braithwaite, recorded live at Otherworld 2025 at Under the Bridge Collective! This set was played as the sun set over the Cowichan Valley Saturday night, with dancefloor antics including a Salon Saloon takeover.

MASSIVE THANK YOU to Any Patch of Grass for having me down to their magical festival in Darrington, Washington. What a special set this was for me!! With this being my official debut in the US of A, I spent a ridiculous amount of time working on this. I wanted to make sure that the vibe was exactly what I wanted it to be. This festival blew me away from start to finish and it was such an honor to be on this lineup. For those who saw this live - thank you for being there. Every smiling face on that dancefloor made me so happy. And for the rest of you who are hearing it now - thank you for listening. Live At The Hive APOG 2025

This is a track for track recreation of one of the more inspiring DJ sets I've had the privilege of playing in, quite frankly, my entire music career. After five years of helping create a beautiful experiment in community on an elk ranch near Ponoka, hundreds and thousands of hours of planning, working, celebrating and partying with an amorphous village of inspiring Albertans, I was granted the extreme duty and privilege of curating sounds for the penultimate Saturday night gathering of Freezer Burn 2017. 

As the sun went down, and the microcosm gathered in the cool grass, and most importantly as that motherfucking man burnt, I helped craft sonic background from a converted limo bar to an expansive and excitable crew of individuals. A set like this sticks in the memory banks without a doubt.

John Mayer - Your Body Is A Wonderland w/ Banter

Wax Theory’s musical inner workings run deep. For him, music is not an obsession - it’s an inevitability. His all-consuming passion for shared sonic experience has translated into event productions, underground parties, and festival bookings across Canada and overseas since he bought his first turntables in 2010. He lies at the musical intersection of house, disco, funk, soul, R&B, bass, folk and rock, and the sounds in his repertoire are universally heartfelt, warm, and filled with positive thoughtful intention. 

Electro Swing parties in small Calgary venues in 2012 blossomed into a Shambhala Music Festival booking in 2013 with Electro Swing Club Canada. From that rocket blast into the dance music scene, Wax Theory collaborated with producers, dancers, performers, painters and players around Western Canada to create multi-disciplinary art extravaganzas at Astral Harvest, Spiritbar in Nelson, BC, and Freezer Burn, and at festivals, pop ups and halls scattered around Alberta and B.C.

Aside from producing parties and performances with his multi-talented wife DJ Work Party, Wax Theory co-led a seven year DJ residency at Habitat Living Sound from 2014 to 2020. Recently, he’s played DJ sets at Vortex Tisno for Defected Croatia, Shuffle Club YYC, Sub Rosa, Station on Jasper (YEG), HiFi Club, Disco in the Park 2022, Cafe Koi, the #1 Legion, Chvrch of John and the Grindstone Theatre in Edmonton, and basements, community halls, fundraisers and pop up parties from Stephen Ave to corporate gigs to secret warehouses.

Now, Wax Theory curates and plays at Soul Candy, a residency at Rated Ultra Lounge in Calgary dedicated to the best in house, disco, bass and funk music, with an eye and ear for flamboyant, colourful, warm and vibrant music and art.
