We boarded our ship to the islands
Could have taken a trip to the Highlands
But back home it is Fall
Now we’re floating in a mall
And we’re all out on deck waving goodbye, land!

It’ll be fun, they said, take a cruise
It’s a prescription for the blues
But somewhere I read
It’s for newlyweds and nearly-deads
And I don’t know which one I’d choose

Now we’re not too young
And we’re not so old
But we’ll take our time
‘Cuz they’ve oversold!

We cruised all night to Jamaica
In the morning the staff couldn’t wake her
So the ship turned around
Now we’re North Atlantic bound
And the ambulance is coming to take her!

The story of the Whydah Gally is as turbulent and intriguing as the stormy seas she once navigated. This formidable ship, originally built as a slave gally, met her fate in 1717, transforming from a symbol of human suffering to a legendary pirate vessel under the command of “Black Sam” Bellamy. The Whydah Gally itself lay forgotten beneath the sea until 1984, when explorer Barry Clifford discovered the wreck off Cape Cod —the world’s first authenticated pirate shipwreck. A treasure trove of gold, silver, jewels and artifacts, including a ship’s bell inscribed “THE WHYDAH GALLY 1716,” brought this lost chapter of pirate history back to life. Today, the story of the Whydah pirates —their shipwreck, trial, and fate, captivates historians, museum-goers and anyone fascinated by the real-life pirates of the Caribbean.
