an instrument that had been a constant companion throughout their life, weaving itself into the fabric of childhood memory. At its core lies the recognition that both human and accordion share the same essential act: breathing. 
The accordion becomes a meditation on mortality and memory, its bellows expanding and contracting like "lungs", its air valve releasing pure breath without melody—the raw pneumatic essence of life itself. Every sound originates from this single instrument, largely unprocessed, preserving the intimate relationship between human touch and mechanical response.

BUFFALO, NY — July 28, 2025 — A new #research paper was #published in Aging (Aging-US) Volume 17, Issue 6, on June 13, 2025, titled “Development of a novel transcriptomic measure of aging: Transcriptomic Mortality-risk Age (TraMA).”

In this study, led by Eric T. Klopack from the University of Southern California, researchers created a new RNA-based aging measure that predicts health risks and mortality. This measure, called Transcriptomic Mortality-risk Age (TraMA), uses gene expression data to estimate a person’s biological aging. This finding offers a new and potentially more accurate way to track aging and understand health risks, especially for older adults.

Aging is a complex biological process that affects multiple systems in the body and increases the risk of disease and death. Scientists have long looked for reliable ways to measure biological aging. While DNA methylation and blood biomarkers are commonly used, this study focused on RNA—a molecule that reflects gene activity. By analyzing RNA sequencing data from nearly 4,000 U.S. adults aged 50 and older, the team developed TraMA to predict the probability of dying within four years.

TraMA proved to be a strong and independent predictor of early death, multiple chronic diseases, poor cognitive function, and difficulties with daily activities. It was also tested in another large group of long-lived families and in several smaller datasets from patients with conditions like diabetes, sepsis, and cancer. The results confirmed the tool’s usefulness across different populations and health conditions.

Unlike earlier RNA-based aging measures, which were often built using small or non-representative samples, TraMA was developed using modern RNA sequencing technology results and a nationally representative dataset. This increases its reliability and potential for broad public health applications. The tool also demonstrated unique advantages over popular biological aging measures like GrimAge and PhenoAge, capturing distinct aspects of aging and health decline.

Importantly, TraMA tracks biological processes related to inflammation, immune function, and kidney and brain health, systems that play key roles in aging. It was also sensitive to behavioral and socioeconomic factors. For instance, smoking, obesity, and low physical activity were associated with older TraMA scores.

TraMA was also sensitive to changes in biological aging. In one study, researchers measured TraMA at two different time points and found that the more recent scores were better at predicting who would die. This suggests that TraMA can track changes in a person’s aging as their health evolves. It also performed well in both large-scale surveys and small clinical samples, making it a useful tool in many types of research.

By offering a new, accurate, and flexible method for measuring biological aging, TraMA may help researchers better understand how genes, lifestyle, and environment influence aging. This tool opens the door to more precise research on improving health and extending lifespan.

This week we begin a 9 week exploration of the book of Ecclesiastes as Tom Parker invites us to consider our mortality and the wisdom of humility. As we read Ecclesiastes 1, we're challenged to confront the brevity and cyclical nature of life. The scripture paints a stark picture of existence as 'hevel,' 'vanity,' 'smoke' - fleeting as a breath. Yet, far from being pessimistic, this wisdom literature invites us to embrace reality and find meaning within life's limitations. We're reminded that while generations come and go, the earth remains, highlighting our small place in the grand scheme. This perspective shift can be liberating, freeing us from the illusion of control and opening our hearts to God's eternal presence. As we grapple with life's repetitive nature - from daily chores to life's big questions - we're called to find joy in simple pleasures and trust in God's overarching plan, even when it's not immediately apparent. This message resonates deeply with our modern lives and our cultural moment, encouraging us to live humbly and purposefully in light of our mortality.

All Things Fade

- Issues if murder or uncared for poor occur in US. Grace and mercy would be withdrawn. Interventions. Lord acts on behalf of the meek and humble. 
- Rev.1:1-8 - a promise, declaration, warnings. Seasons changing day to night. Time frame is up to us in our hearts. Man's success is not conducive to God's righteousness. No ambiguity or puzzles. 
Rev. 1- Christ given the revelation to show His servants what must shortly come to pass. It began in Christ's day. Holding time in prison was 10 days. A witness kept the standard. We live by what we believe and adopt. John calls it Christ's testimony. Christ is the first begotten of the dead. Believing on the crucifixion. Letting go of the world. A new creature. Christ becomes the prince of the kings of Earth, so we have power over the enemy. All principalities. Deceit of the world makes us struggle. Perpetual preparedness. If you utilize the world's power you will unite with them. Every place feels spiritually different. Once you give your life to Christ, there's no going back, or you'll be destroyed. We are marked from birth. Go through tribulation or wrath. Entire life is tribulation; ie raising us. Does "The great tribulation" exist in bible? It comes from man. One moment is a marker of turbulence, which is also the change of seasons. 
- Rev 1:9-20 - Tribulation means trouble. Beginning to end with great trouble such as never seen. Jesus says flee just like as Dan. 12. Then deliverance or wrath. Promise of indignation came from Jeremiah. Christ has keys of hell and death. Jesus' call when we leave; the good and the evil of us.
- Rev 2:1-6 -  7 stars = 7 angels of 7 churches. 7 candlesticks = 7 churches. An angel is a messenger from God. In this context, the preacher of the church that presides over it. Specific message to specific people. We don't instantly believe "apostles". We evaluate. Spiritual ears open. 1st church Ephesus left it's first love. Told to repent and do first works, or conversion works. All inclusive with hope and love. Fallen state is beginning to exclude calling people unworthy or condemned. We judge only hearing part of a sentence. Hate deeds of Nicolaitans with doctrine of men. Sickness is decay. Some preachers don't believe in the supernatural, so still the same today as then. Hybrid gospel. 
- What we give should be anointed. By spirit, not flesh to overcome.
-Smyrna-Rev 2:8-11- 2nd death has no power. Rich and synagogue of Satan. Some Jews believe and some don't. Some blinded for a reason until the purging at the appointed time.  Synagogue of Satan were God's but given over. Saying they're Jews, but not. 
- Truth of Living God has witnesses. God's word or nothing. Asking for patience tries your patience. Wait with hope for a lifetime. 
-Rev. summary -  Go back to your first works. Be faithful unto death. 10 days of prison. These are to certain peoples/churches. Be willing to go through whatever He asks. Walk away from what you've gained materially. We each go through different things our entire lives. 
- Apostles died. Weren't average people. Tough, even before they met Christ. Paul's life was due to his calling to witness to the gentiles. Be who you truly are. 
- Rev. 2:12-17 -Pergamos- White stone with new name if you overcome. Even weak here, we'll never be overcome in eternity. Significance of no one knowing your name. Must have authority over someone to name them. God has no name, just a description. 
- We can see ourselves in these 3 churches. We are a steward over what we have knowledge of.

Dont Make Me Cry

“The five voices” is inspired by the reflections of hospice patients documented by palliative nurse Bronnie Ware, who recorded the most common regrets people share before dying. Through five voices, the song echoes those same truths — working too hard, living for others, hiding love, clinging to pride, and forgetting joy. Each verse becomes a quiet reckoning, and by the final chorus, a gentle acceptance: that even as all fades, love remains.

The air grows thin, the heart grows clear,
The veil dissolves, and truth draws near.
Five voices rise through borrowed breath,
Five mirrors stare into their death.

Ah, the years I chased the fading light,
The hours I sold to endless night.

The five voices

What does a truly successful life look like? This week, we explore Ecclesiastes chapter 9 and how it challenges our cultural definitions of success, inviting us into a radically different way of living. We're confronted with two sobering realities: first, that our lives are not ultimately in our own hands but in God's hands, and second, that death comes for us all regardless of our achievements or status. Rather than leading to despair, these truths become the foundation for profound joy and freedom. The passage reveals that only about 10% of our lives are actually within our control—the rest is determined by genetics and circumstances beyond us. This means we can stop frantically grasping and start gratefully receiving. The teacher's prescription is surprisingly celebratory: eat your bread with enjoyment, drink your wine with a merry heart, wear clean garments, care for your body, and deeply enjoy your relationships. These aren't escapes from reality but acts of worship that acknowledge God's goodness woven into creation itself. When we understand that our lives rest in the hands of a loving God, we're freed from the anxiety of trying to secure our own success. We can be present, savor small moments, and find that true spiritual maturity looks like unhurried joy in the everyday gifts around us—exactly as Jesus modeled in his own remarkably relaxed and interruptible life.

Imagine having a bank account that deposits 960 dollars every single day, but with one catch: you can't save any of it for tomorrow. Every night, your balance resets to zero. What would you do? You'd spend every dollar wisely, right? Well, we already have this bank—it's called time. Every morning we wake with 960 minutes, and every night they're gone forever. This powerful metaphor opens our exploration of Ecclesiastes 12, where the ancient teacher confronts us with life's most uncomfortable truth: time is the one resource we can never stockpile, slow down, or earn back. The passage urges us with stunning urgency to 'remember your creator in the days of your youth'—not as a religious obligation, but as the central organizing principle of a life worth living. Through vivid imagery of a decaying house representing our aging bodies, the teacher shows us that death itself becomes our greatest instructor, rattling its chains to wake us up to what truly matters now. The scripture reveals that over 90% of believers come to faith before age 30, underscoring that the spiritual path we pave in youth becomes the road we walk in age. We're challenged to stop measuring out our lives with coffee spoons, avoiding the deep questions, and instead to lose our lives in Christ so we can truly find them. The invitation is beautifully simple yet profoundly challenging: fear God, keep His commandments, and discover that what we surrender to Him is always returned as something infinitely better.
