Number 60 ! ESOA Podcast Number 60 This Month Wow !
Time to drift away from electronic straightforwardness again.
And for this, I have invited Christian Schulze for the second time!
The first time in issue 34 as Chris Wayfarer, with the cool jazzy house sound under that name, I present him to you today under his old drum & bass ego Mr. Lettuce.
Drum & Bass itself has a very broad spectrum as a completely separate category in the electronic music genre, but Christian classifies his sound somewhere in Liquid DnB towards deeper sound.
I would also like to mention his release in 2021 on the label C Recordings, the link for which can be found below.
I am very happy that he took the time for ESOA Podcast for a second time.

Corona, war in the Ukraine and in the Middle East, climate crisis. Plus the resurgence of the right-wing extremism. The longing for a calm, peaceful future is suggestable. An utopia where violent, polarizing and unobjective disputes belong to the past, where the interests of all are heard and where heroes advocate for a world in harmony.
Musically inspired by the soundtrack of the serie „Captain Future“ Chris Wayfarer’s wish manifests in a melodic house track: Pads and chords hover over an arpeggio, complemented by a piano riff and decent used celestas. Silky-sounding leads emphasize the title and get the relaxed, groovy sound structure shining.
Still, the track is not only meant to reach the feelers towards the future but also to provide an answer to a crucial question: Who will lead in the present to open the next chapters? Who will turn this utopia into reality? Quite simply: Each individual - "It's Your Future, Captain!"

Exactly a century ago, George Gershwin made history with „Rhapsody In Blue“. A work that not only united jazz and classical music but also became a symbol of American (music) culture. Inspired by the blue notes which are typical for jazz, Gershwin chose the form of the rhapsody for his work. Without a fixed structure and with plenty of room for interpretation, he filled his work with the optimism and freedom that America stood those days.
Arrived in the year 2024, Chris Wayfarer adds a further note to the masterpiece. With the focus on central themes of the original, the artist brings the track to the dance floor. And so „Rhapsody For The Floor“ is melting house music, jazz and classical music with a four- four-time. A tribute to liberty and 100 years of Americas music history.

Sometimes something has to break so that everyone can live happily and in peace: Chris Wayfarer feat. Paul Buk - Destroy The Dome
Chris Wayfarer has always listened to his inner call. Successfully: The artist from Chemnitz can now look back on over 80 released tracks and remixes, 80,000 streams on Spotify, and more than 20 years of stage experience as a DJ.
He calls his recipe for success Bliss House: A mixture of deep house, organic house, electronica and influences from the UK bass scene. Rooted in drum&bass, the artist is about everything, except of fitting into pigeonholes. His tracks and sets are his form of expression for talking about happiness.
His path to self realisation, of overcoming obstacles, and breaking conventions has led Chris Wayfarer to an inner journey. Although he keeps his spiritual practice as a Buddhist in the background, it has a lasting influence on his life and his musical work: Behind the music is the realisation that bliss does not come from the consumption of
external things but from within. Chris Wayfarer views happiness as a choice. As an artist, he wants to be a role model and inspire to deal with the concept of bliss and explore new paths.
For his new track, he has borrowed the voice of Paul Buk, the lead singer of the band Final Madness. Together, they broach the issue of the increasingly stronger parallel societies in the world. Currents that often utilise inhumane, right-wing extremist narratives and artificially create images of the enemy - because someone looks, loves, believes or thinks differently. Thereby these bubbles often present simple solutions for the problems they have created themselves; petrol for putting out the fires they have started.
However, for a society to grow, which enables all people to live a happy and peaceful life, these domes or bubbles must disappear and dialogue must take place: Destroy The Dome.
The track combines house music with breakbeats. Edgy but definitely funky, it stomps across the dance floor. Just like Paul Buk ́s voice, the lead in the two main parts of the track digs itself distinctive into the the ear canals. In this way, the track, which will be released on the 16th of August 2024, underlines the message of the two artists.

When the world holds its breath under cold temperatures, ice flowers form filigree artworks on windows and other surfaces. Simultaneously, the name “ice flower” stands for a species of begonia that resists frost in a colourful way. In both phenomena, winter shows its subtle and melancholic beauty.

Chris Wayfarer’s new single “Ice Flowers” unfolds just the same way. Carefully, the bell-like sounds grope to the surface of the melodic house track. Little by little the synth arpeggio flourishes above the kicking drum work. When the pad spreads over at the track’s climax, the musical plant shines in full splendour – floating like a dream, melancholic in the bloom, but with a tough and powerful root system for the dance floor.
