Bio.

Started off my Dj 'career' aged 16. A mate of mine used to be well into it and as he was older knew the full ropes and I was keen to learn. I started a job in my local nightclub which had just had a massive refurbishment as a mere glass collector. The club promised forward thinking and DJ bookings never before seen. This intrigued me further, a new host of resident Dj's had been selected and I quickly got to know them and asked questions and spent much time early in the night before the inevitable chaos of a full house studying what they were all doing. It didn't take long for me to realise that I wanted to be that person stood there moving the crowd, shaping the face of their evenings, introducing them to new music and being the person responsible for those hands in the air moments.

I quickly realised that I wasn't immediately going to be taking the place by storm on a friday and saturday night so had to find another means of getting into it. As I was currently a student at 6th form i decided the best way to do this was to throw some student parties. Before hours I would go to work where they would allow me to have a play around with the equipment, it didn't take long for me to decide this wasn't enough so I had to head out and buy my own. This was before the days of CDJs and sync buttons, it was vinyl or the very old fashioned dual CD decks. I couldn't afford 1210's on my 3.50 and hour wage so some bog standard dual Cd decks were the way forward. I quickly picked up how to 'mix' and was pleased with my progress. Between me and a few friends we decided to organise our own student raves with a small cover charge to raise money for us to buy things for our common room. Everyone would benefit in different ways. We approached a few local venues, one of which took a particular interest and allowed us to proceed. These turned out to be a massive success much to my delight. I was suddenly that man in focus as I had wanted from a few months earlier. I continued to be everyones DJ of choice for parties, student raves and it wasn't long until one of the local pub managers contacted me with a view to a trial to be his new resident. The music was rather more commercial than I was used to but I gave it a go and from there I was their new resident. From then on I held residencies in many of my local town's bars and clubs. My most revered was the one I held at the now defunct Soviet/Union. The Union was a party bar themed around anything goes musically but the soviet was the best gig in town, the only forward thinking establishment where we were loved for and encouraged to play the music 2 years before it was popular. I remember getting slated for playing 'swedish house' having witnessed the first appearance in newcastle of a certain Sebastian Ingrosso, I told them give it 6-8 months and they would be craving the songs I had been playing, thankfully I was right. Unfortunately all good things come to an end and the place closed to a raucous final weekend at the beginning of September 2010. Consett has never been the same since. 

I now faced the problem of having gone from weekly gigs to holding no residency whatsoever. I made a few guest appearances at other local places but none gave me that same vibe and enjoyment so I decided I had to turn my back on the whole thing. I had now made my mind up that the only way I could go back was by looking elsewhere. This happened after a few months by pure coincidence. I got talking to a gent who had suffered a similar fate to myself, we got talking. Turned out him and his mate were wanting to start their own night up, playing for the love of it where it was all about the music. They asked me if I would like to be a guest at their new night 'Homespun' I jumped at the chance. I now had the taste for it again and was keen to keep an eye open for any other possible openings. After a few gigs for Homespun they asked me to come on board as one of their residents which I was thrilled about. From then it gave me the confidence to enquire about more gigs in other places. As a result of my new found confidence I found myself able to land gigs at various places in town, some alongside names one or two of you may well be familiar with. Another chance encounter saw us come across some gents keen to get clubbing juggernaut Cream a permanent fixture in Newcastle and they asked us to be part of the whole thing as their residents culminating in me playing the main room at their last gig alongside the very talented due Third Party. I am currently resident for Cream Newcastle and Homespun Newcastle and always looking to make appearances when the right opportunities present themselves like some of those listed below.

Hi peeps, I'm Hildy Harland, I am lead vocalist of Hildy Harland and The Harmonaires as well as Harmonaires Blues Duo. I also sing for The bop dogs quartet and Swing soup. I sing anything that is Jazz, swing and blues as well as the occasional folk song or two.
