Perila is a St. Petersburg-born, Berlin-based sound and visual artist, DJ and performer who works to explore the sensitive borderlines and depths of subtle matter. Her music explores thick narratives with shifting moods and textures, allowing the listener to drift through a rich psychedelic sound palette. Perila’s passion for radio led her to curate and design Berlin Community Radio, where she hosted monthly for four years, and to co-found Russian online station radio.syg.ma which specializes in experimental soundscapes. In addition to showcasing her unique ventures through ambient music, her show has also welcomed the likes of Andrew Pekler, Dynamo Dreesen, and Tomoko Sauvage. Perila also curates an online community WET (Weird Erotic Tension), which explores ideas of sonic sexuality in mixing spoken word, poetry, ASMR and field recordings. Since 2020 Perila has been involved with the musical projects Aseptic Stir, LOG, and Critical Amnesia.

‘I have recently been reading up on Krautrock music and scene, and I think this mix reflects that - tracks include old and new finds of German music, stuff that reminds me of it, as well as the usual dub / ambient / etc.’

q. pls introduce yourself:
a. Hi we’re asio and usof from the Living Room crew


q. is there a story behind the mix?
a. We were invited to perform a sleep show by the Ouvido Absoluto crew in Coimbra. We were very excited because playing a sleep set was always something we wanted to do. We've been collecting tracks specifically for an occasion like this for many years. On top of the different tracks we were improvising with a variety of digital instruments, to create an organic canvas of sound that is always moving, but very slowly. The idea of influencing dreams with music is one aspect that we found particularly interesting. So for that reason the set is not always focused on creating comfort, but rather different, sometimes quite alien moods.


q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?
a. Sleeping and dreaming.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room…
a. Perhaps the red desk light in Cosmos (technically our living room:). it creates a very cozy atmosphere.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
a. The whole Living Room crew is soon set off to play at Waking Life. After that we’ll have a string of events in Lisbon, with the next one being on the 6th of July.
