Success At Six: McLeod Farms

On the way to the beach, WBT's Mark Garrison visits McLeod Farms Roadside Market, a South Carolina favorite for all things "peach" since 1916.  McLeod Farms is a multi-generational, family run farm known for delicious peaches, peach ice cream, and even peach enchiladas,  Oh, and hail cannons.  That's right, the McLeod family attempts to "bend the weather" in order to protect their crop and deliver delicious fruit nationwide.

Success At Six: Talbert Christmas Trees

WBT’s Mark Garrison visits with Jerry and Sheila Talbert, who serve hot cider to visitors to their Christmas tree farm, and then cut the trees themselves.  The idea was born from tragedy following the death of Jerry’s 17 year old daughter from a virus.  Immersed in grief, a friend gave the Talberts a bag of trees to plant so that he had something to do.  It became a labor of love, and a way to bring joy to kids at holiday time.  Jerry credits Christmas trees with saving his life.

Success At Six: Charlotte Fish Company

WBT’s Mark Garrison speaks to fisherman Tim Grinder, a civil engineer by trade, who started deep sea fishing when business slowed in the recession of 2008.  From snapper to seabass, grouper to porgy, the line-caught fish he landed started turning the heads of chefs in Charlotte, so he began selling to restaurants, with the remainder of his haul on sale every Saturday at the Matthews Farmers’ Market.  More than a decade later, Tim happily credits his success to the demise of his earlier business.
