There is an immediately noticeable shift in mood from the last time we checked in with S. Carey. He was heavy-hearted on 2022’s Break Me Open — crestfallen and reckoning after a big love lost. And so, Watercress sets us off with the ringing of hard-won hope. It is in fact only in the clear, shallow waters that watercress grows. And these are the very places that Sean Carey the human being returns to again and again — to fish, to reflect, and to grow. Seasons have passed and he’s spent time healing in the water, flowing and still. The pieces have been collected and reassembled. Of course, there’s always going to be a wistful quality to S. Carey’s music. But here, it’s the bright, crisp October morning kind of wistful.

Building on a solid foundation of heartfelt and heartbreaking country & western and Americana arrangements, as well as featuring a stellar cast of local and national musicians, Buffalo Gospel delivers wholly original material that manages to feel utterly timeless.

"look in Her eyes" is a shout out to all women that are so much stronger than us men can ever be. It calls out the trash men put them through and how we all need to grow and treat woman like the powerful and special people they are. The incredible lack of empathy for what they can experience on an everyday basis is disheartening to say the least. It starts at the very top in this country. In this song I admit my own past faults and call on men to rally with me to a new beginning of empathy in our social behavior.

"Our Vision", I wrote two days before wrapping up this project. It wraps up all the different talking points I hit. A.I. is really about our dive into a new generation of doing less on our own and letting superior technology takes us to where we always dreamed of going. This album is an example of that for me. Without tech in the production world, I'd still make my albums on a 4-track tape player. Regardless, we still have to be careful because anything this good can be used to hurt us. Artificial Intelligence as a whole, is  just like most things. It can be a very sharp, doubled edged sword.
