This playlist was created to generate visibility for female musicians   and to showcase the overwhelming and inspiringly diverse level of talent amongst female artists within Ireland.

Alev Lenz is back with a fresh single titled Eggshell, off her forthcoming album Two-Headed Girl.

The song is about the bottled-up anger and fear we have instilled in us from our parents. As we toughen up as a child, however, that also means staying cast in a child’s mind-set. Once an adult, it’s a journey breaking free from that, letting go of known anger to explore the adult, grown self, which only lives in the unknown i.e. without a shell. 

With a strong, captivating rhythm and even stronger message, the song promises to set a powerful tone for the full album release.

Hood Smoke releases much anticipated third album, Rough Around The Hedges

For their third album Hood Smoke capitalizes on the medium of the studio by combining live band performances with string trios, brass trios, a small choir, and trumpet star Marquis Hill and Chicago legend Matt Ulery on tuba.
 
Composer Bryan Doherty has found his highest level of composition to date with the music that is Rough Around The Hedges. Catchy, thought-provoking, melodic, funky, and autobiographical are the songs that make up The Hedges. Doherty describes each song as a moment in time that illustrates his own path in life. From shortcomings to urban nightlife, interaction with enticing insanity to concern for loved ones, lifting weight off one’s shoulders to the terror of losing all hope, seeking guidance to finding the right rhythm, Rough Around The Hedges is considered to be Hood Smoke’s finest achievement yet. Doherty hopes the listener can tune in and tune out for the forty minutes that make up The Hedges and be taken away to a musical representation of a world that is far from perfect, where people have flaws and desires, habits and vices, betterment and progress, discouragement and appreciation, sex and drugs, love and friends, jokes and stories, secrets and lies, and most of all the need to move forward. A world that is very Rough Around The Hedges as narrated by Hood Smoke.

F L E C K S are Freya Monks and Scott Halliday, a Dublin based synth-pop duo. They have been writing songs together since 2012, sharing their love of writing and production. Their music is heavily inspired by 80's movies, classic synth-pop and dark, atmospheric film scores.

In 2016, Flecks released their debut EP entitled ‘Girl’, which was recorded, produced and mixed in their studio in Dublin. It was greatly received, gaining national radio play and landing a placement in RTÉ’s thrilling drama ‘Striking Out’, with their track ‘Objects of Desire’.

From September 2018, Flecks plan to release four new singles. The first one being ‘Samurai’, which was premiered by Dan Hegarty on 2FM’s ‘The Alternative’. Samurai releases on September 30th and will be available to stream or purchase.
