With 'Hunger' we welcome back New York's finest and label resident Allies for Everyone and Rafael Cerato. Allies & Rafael, who don't need any introduction, treat us with a brand-new track that oozes class and sophistication. 'Hunger' features rich driving textures; as well as euphoric and moody deep house vibes to satisfy ambient, uplifting and feel-good needs, which are the keywords for this beautiful and extraordinary release.

Allies for Everyone & Rafael open proceedings with their smashing original mix. The duo's maturity and musical development is in full swing, as they kick off with a deep, hypnotic beat which is interspersed with subtle effective percussion a profound floaty grooves and indie influences, turning this one into an underground anthem with a very soul tangling appeal. The hypnotizing groove combined with Allies' smooth vocal work gradually ease their way to the breakdown before all elements combine to be unleashed into a rising melodic hook, intertwined with the infectious groove that fades in and out for maximum effect.

Indian maestro Browncoat's interpretation opens proceedings on the remix front; he hits all the right chords from the word go. Known for his distinct and quality driven production style, Browncoat's deep entry is intermixing with glowing drive, filtered stabs and stunning groove which beautifully leads into a drop full of tension and excitement, with the understated yet driving bassline powering the groove along. He manages to keep the energy up, while allowing the driving melodic house feel to shine thru over the many layers and textures to create a beautiful soundscape to round off this classy underground crowd pleaser. Essential stuff!

The second remix comes from label debutant Th3 Oth3r. The Spanish' producers sound is a tough thing to pin down. He is such a unique act in the sense that his emotional creations carry quite a large scope. Th3 Oth3r is not afraid to explore esoteric or introspective themes and the end result is always a compelling one. Such is the case with his remix of 'Hunger', which carries many of his most loved production hallmarks. From a warm, meaty low end to icy atmospherics and an effects storyboard to get lost in, there is certainly a lot to love. The main break being the high point, with the mood shifting from emotive to ominous with an effortless ease. It's something you rarely see and he pulled off beautifully here.

Allies for Everyone & Rafael Cerato's return to ICONYC, with two amazing remixes from Browncoat & Th3 Oth3r, is a triumphant one. 'Hunger' manages to deliver a message of sustained musical relevance in emphatic fashion to warm the soul. About a year on since his first incursion on Stil vor Talent with the acclaimed "Cosmic Silence" EP, Italian-born Berlin-based producer Cioz resurfaces on the label with "Be One Wachaka", the first single taken from his forthcoming debut album, "Supermassive Whole", scheduled for release in late December 2022. Championing a sound tailored for extensive floor communions and soul-balancing introspection altogether, Cioz graces us with a pristine slice of his broad-spectrum explorations, bending intuitively between deep-diving dubs, big-room polyphonies and proper euphoria-inducing rave artillery. 

The lead-single "Wachaka" finds Cioz teaming up with Cape Town's very own Ryan Murgatroyd for a round of all-embracing electronics geared towards pure sense-awakening, floor-sweeping let go. Injecting traditional deep house with a vibrant dose of Afro-influenced templates and spacious cosmic interplays, the track swells with a blazing fire at heart that keeps on sprawling infectiously with each and every bar, inch-perfectly engineered breaks and drops providing the epic drive that'll get your feet off the ground and soul fulfilled wholeheartedly. Starting off to the austere sound of church bells, "B1" swiftly veers off into stealth floor-busting mode with its muted sub-bass onslaughts and cascading bleeps coming out of their thick reverb-shrouded squelch to extend into a more pop-friendly, drum-driven environment. In its second movement, "B1" roars with louder than loud, batucada-inspired drum lines and a relentless, sizzling-hot grit that makes it comfortable across all terrains.

'Temples is a tempting invitation into another world, full of light and movement. From the second the synth comes in this track has got us deep in its pocket. Shotter manages something that is hard to achieve - he has us floating completely, yet steadily carried by tip-toeing metallic rhythm elements and the relentless swells of bright synths. The game changer in the second half is a new, gritty bass quality, which couldn’t roll in any more fiercely. At its fullest the track has us in an uncompromising trance, a relentless movement that we don’t ever want to escape from. Breaking back down to pleasantly gentle hi-hat reverb-tails and inducing synth patterns Temples lets us down easy, with the unspoken promise to return.

Ueno claims the room to itself completely and immediately. The rise and fall of melodic synth lines lead us through a labyrinth at first, leaving plenty of space for imagination. Before we notice playful call-and-response rhythms are teasing our ears, until the track surrenders itself to an ever-growing wave of synth patterns and their behind-the-beat-delay. It climaxes into a haunting silence with tenuous high-pitched sounds and a clear outer space feel. Finally, all elements lock into a comforting groove, driving us forward, not too fast, not too slow - exactly right.

The track starts off with a blissfully nostalgic vintage-feel - slightly muffled, like the humbling quality you get from an old Technics playing your favourite LP. But don’t be fooled, Cube March is bold. And unexpected. Stomping rhythms take over quickly and full-blown gritty synth-stabs cut the air effortlessly, like blades. An unapologetic and careless pumping bass line makes us want to move with every cell in our body. Shotter demonstrates his fearlessness in experimenting with heavy contrasts and elements from different genres here. A break with tastefully placed repetitive rhythm elements is complemented by the constant ebb and flow of melody lines. Both in volume and presence they fluctuate, one handing over the spotlight to the other seamlessly, keeping us hooked until the very end.

This remix lures you away from reality in a matter of seconds, with Definition’s signature heavy hitting bass dominating. He expertly weaves shimmery fills into buoyant synth lines and brings us a skilful mix of dark minimal techno, breaks and infectious monster synth lines. Every so often, he adds a new layer, increasing the depth of the track, before letting it all crumble in a breakdown where time stops and tension grows, as we impatiently await the next rise to carry us away. The lengthy build-ups give this remix the energy to fill any room, easily. It is subtle, yet propulsive, too - a lane that Definition seems to manage regularly.'

Label all-stars Mononoid return to ICONYC with an absolute classy piece of music entitled 'Running out of Time' featuring Amy Douglas White on vocals. The Dutch duo who has been a prominent mainstay in the electronic underground kick' things off nicely with their original mix of 'Running out of Time'. The full-on festival vibes shine through, as we meander effortlessly through club inspired melodies, while the sultry chords and Amy's wonderful vocal sit wonderfully on top adding an extra layer of depth. Mononoid's trademark beat manipulation is prevalent, as all manner of elements drift in and out of earshot. Perfect for beat loving club crowd or to close a big night out in style. 

Kate Ozz, who has been coming through the ranks at lightspeed, certainly needs no introduction with recent releases on Disco Halal, Selador and Nightcolours. She created a rework full of good energy from the word go, as the atmospheric indie dance vibe subtly keeps you moving with warm tinkling sounds, a smooth edge and some nicely effected sounding pieces. We basically have the formula for a bit of a monumental outing. The sparseness is the key here, as her restrained gem works its magic while it plays away, creating a warm glow, creating an air of sophistication. "Essential stuff!"

Next up we welcome back label stalwart Frank Sonic this time around in collaboration with Larsun Hesh to the label, the German / Ukrainian duo known for their polished sound, keep the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general warmth all combine to do the talking. Like something from yesteryear, yet sounding fresh – Their transcendent touch up takes the energy levels up a notch, but increases the melancholy with stripped back and lucid elements at the same time, before the luscious pads grace the rework changing the vibe and creating a blanket of warmth that wraps around the effected groove. Wonderful remix from Frank & Larsun that will certainly cause havoc whenever played out.

The third remix coms courtesy of fast rising ReCorpo who has seen his releases appear on some of the biggest labels around. ReCorpo's deep, compelling and acutely mysterious and richly textured groove make for a lovely first act. As atmospheres evolve, distinctive stabs and vocal edits steal the air, before a one-minute break takes you further into a haze of psychedelic audio, perfectly setting up a groovy finale. A brilliant remix from ReCorpo that's likely destined for the sets of the big boy brigade. Highly recommended.
