An artist finding notoriety under his Stories Of Others pseudonym, Joseph Dodd has quickly risen to prominence with a clutch of high-profile releases. 2018 and 2019 saw the "Edo Lake" and "4+6" EPs signed to Stripped Digital before Stories Of Others joined the Particles roster with a highly distinctive and memorable reworking of Color Ray's "First Light" in March 2020. Now making his full EP debut, "Dukun" is typically impressive opener as a fizzing percussive top line rolls immaculately across the near 7-minute piece. Trademark innovation is immediately in evidence as syncopated woodblock and rich melodies sit in perfect harmony while an evocative bassline adds weight. A smorgasbord of spine-tingling sound awaits at the breakdown before the title track hits its straps once more in the second half. Continuing the powerful sound design of its partner track, "The Clown" provides the listener with an immaculately programmed rhythmic foundation that revels in reverb-laden claves as a metronomic bassline sits perfectly underneath. Cleverly used toy box sounds pierce the sonic spectrum with imagination and ingenuity before a sumptuous layer of detuned and buzzing pads add texture in the latter stages.

A creative talent with a rich history of releases on the Proton Music and Particles catalogues, Erdi Irmak returns to the label for the first time since a 2019 remix of Hansgod, after 2014's "You're Either Guilty or Not Guilty" album shone a light on the Turkish artist's musical soul. About to reveal its sixth instalment, the "Hidden Arcadia" series on Proton Music has created a powerful vehicle for the Erdi Irmak sound while his remix of "Dukun" here, is a powerful reminder of artistic talent. Making intelligent use of the percussion found in the original, he creates a new foundation from which trademark organic synth phrasing and ethnic vocal phrasing flow elegantly. New motifs emerge at the mid-point in layers of immaculately harmonised soundscapes as rhythm and expert production technique create an imaginative remix to remember.

From the base of the Sierra Chicas, Julian Nates has been a rapidly rising star from his Cordoba home. An accomplished musician, proficient in both violin and piano, Nates has found himself featured on an impressive list of blue-chip labels that include Clubsonica Records, onedotsixtwo and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden. April 2020's "Luminism" EP marked a notable Particles debut as two original tracks were joined by remixes from Imran Khan and Ejaz Ahamed. Now returning to the label for a debut remix, the Julian Nates interpretation is a driving progressive house number that generates dancefloor power courtesy of a heavy kick and off-beat house percussion. A running arpeggio adds to the subtle energy while the overall melodic vibe of "Dukun" is maintained is intelligent fashion. Subtle variations come to the fore at the mid-point breakdown as textured pads create a dense, swirling atmosphere that leads into a second half where rhythm and arpeggio combine to impressive effect.

Creating a rich new narrative of spirit and magic, "Dukun" finds Stories Of Others at the height of his powers, ably assisted by Erdi Irmak and Julian Nates.

A relative newcomer to the underground dance fraternity, Rayomand has made a considerable splash since an early 2019 debut for Submarine Vibes with his "Untold Stories". The "Feelings" EP for Particles in March 2020 marked an impressive first outing on the label as the Bangalore based producer now returns with "Running Away". The title track is a beautifully imagined piece that meanders enticingly, with fluid piano motif and lazy percussive backdrop providing an emotive combination. Subtly introduced, layers of filtered arpeggio and memorable effects build into the second half with ease, as clever gating introduces an intelligent new cadence. "Textures" provides a slightly more upbeat moment where strong beat and immaculately programmed bassline interact with each other in pristine fashion. A glittering arpeggio flies across the stereo spectrum in dizzying manner while pulsating pads and smoothly imagined keys create wonderfully layered moments. Hitting the heights in the third movement, innovative pitching and crunchy saturation creates an impressively imagined track.

Hailing from the sprawling Sao Paolo megalopolis, Vínicius Souza has been a force to be reckoned with through his RIGOONI production moniker. A 2018 debut for Digiment Records has quickly seen the Brazilian go on to feature on Nick Warren's Balance compilation, before appearances on Anjunadeep, The Soundgarden and Roger Martinez's Higher States. Now making his Particles debut, the RIGOONI remix of "Running Away" is a supremely crafted affair that glistens with popping, clicking percussive effects that pave the way for ethereal vocal breaths to add a melancholic air. Creating a familiar air with the chord progressions fundamental to Rayomand's original, new melodies emerge in emotive fashion while the arpeggio central to the original, makes its presence felt in the second half atop metronomic grooved bassline and pounding beat.

Andrea Cassino needs little introduction with a back catalogue that has seen him at the forefront of the dance music industry for two decades. Firmly settled in his adopted Argentinean home, the Italian has been a regular contributor to Proton Music and Particles with both production partner, Alex Laben, and subsequently in impressive solo guise. 2017's "Divine" EP marked a debut solo outing on Proton Music with "Losing Part of Me" following in September 2020. A perfect sextet of remixes have found their way onto Particles for the likes of Nicolas Rada, Danny Lloyd and Simos Tagias, while a seventh now sees Andrea Cassino return to rework Rayomand. A pulsating, progressive house gem, a powerful bassline groove lays the foundation for elements from the original to sit enticingly on top, not least in the pitched effects so central to "Running Away". Creating a new melodic phrasing with its roots in Rayomand's work, Andrea Cassino's skill is to create a powerful and evocative interpretation that adds real gravitas to proceedings before subtle arpeggiated refrains make their presence felt in the final movement.

Through a pair of original tracks and remixes from RIGOONI and Andrea Cassino, Rayomand is "Running Away" with success.

Operating out of his Arizona home, Brenden LaBonte has consistently found himself at the forefront of a distinctive underground house sound with his Forerunners soubriquet. An advocate of the ‘quality over quantity’ maxim and a sound that is full of maturity and quality, the US artist has seen his music allied to a plethora of high-profile imprints that include Anjunadeep, Silk Music, and Black Hole Recordings.
 
Now returning to GMJ & Matter’s flagship imprint after a spell-binding interpretation of Mike Isai’s “Home” in July 2021, Meanwhile’s 21st release sees Forerunners open his “Ancient Methods” EP with the mesmerising title track. Full of melodic poise and rhythmic interplay, a driving beat and tight off-beat percussion heralds a dynamic opening before a mechanic bassline and syncopated groove create the foundation for delicate motifs to lilt their way across the 8-minute track with ease. Delay-infused effects and pitched synth add to the aural atmosphere at the breakdown as a sustained pad holds sway throughout to create a subtle tension and hypnotic vibe.
 
The complex rhythmic foundation that infuses the oxymoronic “Light in the Darkness” is a powerful forerunner for the deep melodic melange to follow. As running bassline and swirling effects build, a dizzying breakdown of looped arpeggio provides sonic intrigue and bright, uplifting zenith. Exploding into the third movement, an hypnotic melody sits against oppressive bass and rhythm to create a magical track.
 
Continuing the dark rhythmic narrative of its predecessors, “Valis” provides another sonic tapestry filled with texture and innovation. Beneath a ticking percussive groove and chest-thumping kick, an effects-laden and pitched oscillator bassline reveal themselves across the 6-minute offering as a mesmerising arp creates a powerful melodic presence in the mid-range. Science-fiction inspired effects that the Future Sound of London would be proud of, infuse the breakdown as the second half drops into the huge bass-heavy underpinning once more.

As Michael A continues his fruitful relationship with Proton Music, the Belarusian artist blossoms with a third instalment of his successful EP series. Adding to a raft of immaculate original tracks and powerful remixes, "Fantasy, Vol. 3" now takes centre stage.

Opening proceedings, "Spring Singing" is an aptly titled jaunt through smooth progressive house territory as a light percussive backdrop and deep kick pave the way for melodic touches to weave their way across the track in delightfully pitched variations. Building into the second half, the track hits its zenith with an effortless combination of rhythm and melody. "You Are Here" continues the intricate percussive top line arrangement of its predecessor before a rich sub-bass groove adds depth. Subtle melodic motifs wend their way at the mid-point as synth phrases shimmering in panned delays provide the perfect sonic colour. Developing, after the breakdown a scintillating dancefloor track erupts as the powerful kick creates a dynamic force. The third original track finds "Poison Pan" opening with a stunning combination of bass dominance and intelligently cadenced rhythm. White-noise fuelled pads add weight while a shimmering arp filters into sonic range, backed by counterpoint chords and raw LFO power at the breakdown. The delicate groove and sumptuous arp build once more in the second half to magical effect.

A newcome to the Proton Music catalogues, about : river have already demonstrated their flair talent via an array of labels including Nie Wieder Schlafen, Sound Avenue and Everything Will Be OK. Combining the craftsmanship of Oleg and Ervin Ivanov, the father and son partnership hit the ground running with June 2021's "Go Into The Mist" EP. Featuring a glorious musical triptych, the duo debut on Proton Music with a beautifully imagined interpretation of "Fantasy". Using the melodic themes inherent in Michael A's work, the about : river remix creates a sumptuous melodic tapestry that weaves golden threads in intricate sonic patterns to create a stunning new picture that pitches and falls in delicate patterns. Anchored by a driving beat and clicking, ticking percussive patterns, the result is an original and imaginative interpretation.

A second newcomer finds Alan Thomas Doyle creating another a progressive house gem through his amháin moniker. An artist who has performed in Europe, North America and across his native Australia, amháin has found his production talents in similar demand with work for The Purr, Sound Avenue and Meanwhile. A single remix for Particles in May 2021, remixing Loveclub, Mariner + Domingo, is now followed by a lilting progressive gem that takes the central melodic themes of "Silent Moments" and transforms them into a rolling groove-fuelled affair that is filled with delicate spot effects and pitched synth phrasing. Making clever use of the original components, a free-flowing interpretation waxes and wanes with ease across the 7-minute piece.

Michael A's "Fantasy" opens a new world of mystery and magic with three new originals and remixes from about : river and amháin.
