London-based DJ and producer Jay Duncan collaborates with saxophonist Ben Vince on her debut release for Phantasy, introducing two wildly imaginative compositions alongside a simmering remix from Ricardo Villalobos.

From the first notes of brass, quickly melting into a lucid shuffle, it’s clear that ‘In Limbo’ exists on it’s own terms. Vince's virtuoso playing, a feature of former collaborations with the likes of Joy Orbison and Mica Levi, is here gradually manipulated by Duncan into a hugely ambitious trip. This meditative and mysterious approach draws listeners deeper into a liminal, minimal space somewhere between the Fourth World as imagined by Jon Hassell and four AM on a dancefloor in South London.

Duncan deftly raises the tension for the title track’s more percussive and arguably club-ready sibling ‘Anti-Purgatorio’, drawing out almost impossibly taut and inventive rhythms constructed around wormholes from which spill Vince’s instrumentation, washed downstream amid slippery modulations and a distinctive analogue atmosphere.

Ricardo Villalobos adds to his own superlative history of remixes with a characteristically trippy take on ‘In Limbo’. Spanning nearly fifteen-minutes, the legendary Chilean-German innovator subtly reimaginines this ambitious record in form true to both his own musical heritage as well as Duncan’s futurism.

Wex Ukraine Relief Compilation (Various Artist)

Lunar Plane was founded by identical twin brothers, Emre & Mert Altinok. They discovered their passion for producing music while developing an electronic music streaming platform in 2014. Born in Istanbul, the brothers were on the national swimming team and attended Yale University where they studied biomedical engineering and economics. 

After signing a downtempo EP with Solomun’s label 2DIY4, Lunar Plane became the focus of the Altinok brothers. Fueled by their strong academic background and passion for music, the twins experimented with melodic techno, progressive house and electronica. As they discovered their unique style, the brothers produced a signature sound of emotional ethnic melodies accompanied by strong driving basslines, organic groovy drums, and deep ritualistic vocals. 

As a result, more than 40 of their tracks charted globally. Eleven of these tracks were listed in Beatport’s Top 10 charts, and their tracks Olappa, Seraglio and their remix for Oliver Koletzki’s ‘Fire In The Jungle’ have made it to #1 on Beatport in their respective genres. The twins were best-sellers in Beatport’s Afro House genre two years in a row. In less than 5 years, Lunar Plane has become one of the most prominent artists in the electronic music scene. With strong releases on labels such as Oliver Koletzki’s Stil vor Talent, Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats and Moscoman’s Disco Halal, the duo captivated many dance-floors across the globe.

They have remixed tracks by Moby, Sander Van Doorn, Oliver Koletzki, Teenage Mutants, Giorgia Angiuli and Gioli & Assia.

Francis Harris’ Thresholds album dropped on his own Scissor and Thread, garnering rave reviews for an album steeped in atmospheres, drone textures and electro-acoustic explorations. 

It’s an album far removed from the dancefloor, but he’s also managed to curate a remix package from some of the most talented and boundary-pushing artists active on the fringes of the electronic music space. 

First up is Manchester resident Hidden Spheres’ remix of Earth Moves, which is flipped into a pulsating slice of electronica. 

Yu Su, the up-and-coming producer currently living in Canada, takes the same track on a different journey, resulting in a slinky, affecting piece of music that eventually falls into a deep groove.  

Speaker Music - the moniker of ‘rhythmanalyst’ DeForrest Brown, Jr., delivers two reworks of the albums title track Thresholds. The Rhythm Remix focuses on the original’s brass washes, and adds a thick, playful bass rhythm. The Studio Soul remix is more a freeform piece of audio manipulation and editing, resulting in a transportative piece of work that fully compliments the original track.

We first experienced Lonya’s magic, live, at Amsterdam Dance Event 2016, and have been hooked ever since. Lonya is internationally renowned within the underground electronic music scene, with hundreds of successful productions to his name, spanning genres from progressive house, to indie dance, to melodic techno (on labels such as Sudbeat, Einmusika, Beatfreak Recordings, Timeless Moment, Selador, Manual Music, amongst others). He himself has nurtured numerous talented up-and-coming producers by releasing their productions on his own successful and innovative label, Asymmetric Recordings. Lonya’s experience and variety in production translates into a strong and entertaining presence behind the decks. Always sure to surprise and delight, Lonya has curated innumerable legendary parties over the years, not only in his own Tel Aviv, but around the globe.

Whether releasing finely-tuned techno built firmly for the clubs, or cutting-edge progressive fit for main stages across the globe, his dynamic and masterful soundscapes overflow with emotion and are delivered in what feels like an ‘effortless’ manner. 

His gift for evoking emotion through mesmerizing synthesizers, precise percussion, and powerful, driving grooves is ultimately what labels of the highest order such as Toolroom, REALM, Purified, Odd One Out, Saved, Kittball and Zerothree began to notice.

Artist Info:
Polish born DJ, producer and label owner VONDA7 based between Berlin and Valencia, has been recognised for channelling various musical influences into her outstanding music productions and DJ sets. An astute ear for emotive melody, a firm grip on drum programming and an experimental approach to vocals became her trademark skills gaining interest from the very top DJs and radio presenters including DJ Sasha, Above & Beyond, John Digweed, Anja Schneider, Pete Tong, Hernan Cattaneo, Eelke Kleijn, Laurent Garnier among many others. Her music has been featured on media outlets such as Mixmag, Billboard, DJ Mag, Electronic Beats, Ibiza Voice or Ibiza Spotlight to name a few. She released her music on labels such as Anjunadeep, Last Night on Earth, Lost & Found or Einmusika. 2018 saw her take things up another notch with the introduction of her own label - art | werk - a space where she introduced her full artistic vision showcasing her unique blend of styles, drifting between melodic house and techno whilst incorporating influences from other genres like hip-hop, synth-pop or indietronica. Resulting in a dynamic output - bold, consistently interesting and always pushing the boundaries, it stands as a true reflection of her as an artist and a curator.
 
Her path began in her mid-teens whilst dabbling in music journalism, a spark formed when interviewing DJs & producers who were playing parties in her hometown Poznan in Poland. From then she began collecting music and DJing before eventually finding her way to the front doors of Amsterdam's esteemed creative institute - the SAE. It was here that her burgeoning passion for electronic music was propelled by academic focus beginning a new chapter in her development as an artist. She continued her adventure with education and currently works as advisor at renowned Berklee Music College in Valencia.  As Clash put it - 'VONDA7 is part of a new wave of electronic creation.’ An artist who can turn her hand to anything – hard-working, multifaceted and captivating she remains firmly on her ascent.
