2014 saw Steyoyoke Recordings put the finishing touches to their artist roster and the label is now experiencing an ongoing creative continuum, bringing Steyoyoke to its current state of musical solidarity. ‘Family Affair Vol.04’ is a testament to this, as it provokes new inspiring ways for the artists to inspire and influence each other. Split across two separate releases, Part 1 and Part 2, “Family Affair Vol.04’ comprises of 9 remixes, which sees all the Steyoyoke artists adding their own personal flavours to some of 2014’s biggest tracks.

Part 1.
Soul Button’s remix of ‘First Glimpse’ by Aki Bergen is the curtain raiser. Possessing a little more energy than the original, this remix boasts an alluring new intensity and vibe. It is captivating and uplifting.
Next up, is Aaryon’s remix of Soul Button & Talul’s ‘Chasing Thoughts’. Building upon the intricate layers already existing within the original, Aaryon intertwines edgier synth flurries and a more sinister bass line.
‘Hydra’ by Animal Picnic is remixed by Nick Devon, who chooses to focus on the originals unyielding drive. Nick really draws out the true ruthlessness of this track, with techno influences infiltrating this remix from start to finish.
Dahu takes on the remix of Aki Bergen’s ‘Helix’ and he customises it with some menacing elements. He does however maintain the originals “raw minimal techno groove” and garnishes this with industrial style accents.
The final track on Part 1 is Ran Salman’s version of ‘7th Heaven’ by Soul Button. Opting for a slightly punchier sound, Ran enlivens his remix by incorporating a few extra synth riffs and a bouncer bass line.

Teenage Mutants sets sail in a new journey into deep tech, shaping up a mosaic comprising of five original tracks.

Palais kicks off proceedings with a revving lead and ascending melody. The journey theme becomes evident from the outset, as the track marches along, gradually building up into an upbeat construction. Dub vibes aplenty come about in Couer, as tribal drums create a heavy-hitting yet pensive start. Anchored in sweeping synths and subtle elements, the percussion remains prominent throughout the cut, making it a great dancefloor weapon. 

Concorde, a term near-synonymous with aircrafts, one of three collaboration tracks with newcomer Heerhorst. It swiftly unveils dark and brooding atmospheres. With the help of an initial heavy kick drum doubled by percussive elements and an electricity-tinged lead, it conveys an intense ambiance. A male vocal chanting French lyrics kicks in, ultimately unveiling the reason for the overall morose mood: it’s all centered around love. Opera is a string-heavy arrangement where distorted loops reign supreme. Yet another slice of melancholy in the form of a moody lead makes its presence, instilling tension and dynamism. Breaking out into an array of synths at peak time, confusion intertwines with darkness, mixing together in the end. Jour plays upon a parallel sequence of loops, garnering complementary tones in a constant zig-zagging motion. Strobing noises and hellish melodies occupy opposing corners, mediated by a playful bassline.

Anyone who’s encountered Christopher Kah’s sounds over the years will know all too well that he’s a multi-talented multi-instrumentalist. 
A true innovator in his field, Kah is a man who takes great pride in ensuring his music is presented in a truly unique format. 
His latest endeavour is RE: SOURCE, a concept where “every track” he explains, “is created with minimum resources”. 
This all comes to light quite brilliantly via his latest, RE: SOURCE 01. Featuring four original tracks, the release also comes backed by four individual videos which demonstrate the producer’s grand knack for live production.

Kicking off matters is the sounds of ‘Blade’. 
Like much of this EP, it’s produced using the Roland TR-8S in conjunction with another of his weapons of choice, the Elektron Digitakt. 
A grandiose and foreboding track with shades of UR at its core, this is trippy techno of the type often emitted from the genre’s godfathers straight out of Detroit.

‘Machine’ is a raw, minimal cut that’s laced with acid from the get-go. Full of muffled vocal patterns, it’s a thoroughly uncompromising spectacle that never lets its guard down for a moment. 
A hypnotic track that’s most definitely suited to peak-time pastures, it’s sure to decimate any dancefloor its let loose on. 
‘Extent’ is next up. A track that ups the ante even further, it’s characterised by its big room capabilities and dramatic overtones. 
Like much of Kah’s best work, it’s not one for the faint of heart, and has already proved a highlight of the French producer’s much-loved live sets.

Culminating the release is the sounds of ‘Warcry’. A gnarly track that’s notable for its restless sheen, it’s full of tantalising claps, snares and a heaving, chugging vibe that ensures the release signs out amongst a general feeling of euphoria. 
A truly captivating release, Kah’s latest is sure to find favour with in-the-know techno heads especially.

Coming in fresh from Belgium to join the Hive Audio-camp is Nico Morano, prolific DJ, broadcaster and ambassador of mainly melodic House and TechHouse as well as a producer on the rise he's grown into one of the most recognized figures of the Belgian scene and certainly is here to provide the world with some bangers.

The opening title track of his most recent single, „Cartago“, Nico Morano dashes out with what is to be referred to as an instant future classic from the very start. A catchy, well recognizable motif keeps people locked instantaneously only to be replaced by the most playful, crystalline and complex melodic structure that has hit the TechHouse scene in a while, a sparkling ode of joy that will touch punters hearts for now and forever.

Following up is Manuel Moreno on remix duties for „Cartago“ who's beaming Nico Morano's original tune into a whole new reality with his rework, focusing on a spatial, most tender musical vision for the track, turning the remarkable melody and uniqueness into perfect compagnons for heart-warming, most beautiful sunsets on the dancefloor, best shared with loved one.

Finally „Irazu“ sees the Belgian producer providing another original showcase of why his productions are so special. Based on a foundation of complex, tribalistic and even Jazz-infused percussion layers Nico Morano unfolds an astounding set of ever rising, culminating synths ever in motion, effortlessly fusing a certain 'troity vibe with composition techniques surely influenced by both Trance as well as (Neo)Classical, amalgamating all this into a timeless cut that's not about to leave any DJ's favorite list soon.

This EP was conceived as an ode to diversity and travel. The journey begins in the meanders of the past with "Jadis", a track that poetically embodies the nostalgia and carefreeness spirit of youth. The adventure then continues in the heart of the Amerindian jungle and its supernatural phenomena in a bewitching piece with tribal accents, "Ayahuasca". The EP also gives pride of place to the modern world and its technological din through "Kernel Panic", a dark and dystopian track. Of course, the duo doesn't forget its classical inspirations with "Decadence", a piece of music conceived as a real tribute to orchestral music. In the same vein, the EP ends on "Ostinato", a concentrate of rhythm, energy and harmony.
