Carl Cox is an industry figurehead whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

Intec's new release is from UMEK who is a Slovenian artist accredited with kick-starting the techno scene in his home country, before earning critical acclaim on a global scale when he first started his career in the 90s.

Having released on labels ranging from CLR and Novamute right through to Toolroom, in recent years UMEK's own imprint "1605" has also become a main outlet for his music.

People with a good knowledge of technos history will be more than aware of the impact of UMEKs classics tracks, such as his anthemic Gatex that came out only a few years before his first Intec release in 2005.

Having also collaborated with many influential figures such as Chris Liebing and Joey Beltram, this new solo EP is UMEKs third release on Intec.

Titled Percussionix the EP opens with (Mix 1) which centres around a thick set bassline cut with filter sweeps and full of menacing intent. Leading the track is a combination of tribal percussion loops, which provide the track's main driving force.

Track two is UMEKs alternative mix of Percussionix which titled (Mix 2) has a more refined sound with the raw edges of the percussion being rounded off to smooth the sound, and its bassline is left unfiltered so it becomes more of a gradual sweep that grows with building tension.

2018 was a strong year for @NightNoiseMusic and there are promising signs that this fine form will continue into 2019. Kicking off the new year with an EP from Berlin/Barcelona based duo @Señora, the duo are musical magpies taking inspiration from all around them, utilising pulsing electronics, animal calls, voices, cries, chants, howlings, bellowings, storms and stolen recordings to create musical joy. The EP features two original tracks 'Ritmo Casablanca' & 'Ugüaje Te - Tengo' which showcase the unique vibe the duo have when producing music.

On remixes duties are label mate @Tulioxi with this cracking rework of 'Ritmo Casablanca' and the always excellent 'James Rod'. This is a beautifully diverse EP which showcases a wondrous array of talent and one that starts 2019 with real style.

Pedro Vian previews a new track from his second studio album due for release early February, with the release of the single 'Flexible Girl' which comes accompanied by remixes from two talented Barcelona-based DJ's and producers, Cardopusher and Da Silva.

Vian's original track is a tense affair, with subdued synths, an ominous vocal sample and an almost militaristic rhythmic propulsion.

Whilst Da Silva's remix takes it into even deeper territory and shrouds the track in a layer of uncanny murk accentuating its deeper potential.

Marino first got our attention with a tune called ‚Can’t feel‘ a few years back. We played that track for ages, followed him since then and his music always found a way into our sets. Since we started the Siamese label he was always on the wish list to make a record for us and after his successful debut on the latest ‚Siamese Anthology‘ EP we can finally reveal a full EP from Marino Canal.

The title track ‚A Fire In The Sun‘ has been a permanent tool for us since we got it. It is changing the mood especially in the first part of our sets, letting us go many directions after it. It‘s calm but powerful, emerges suddenly but then goes back to its steady groove.

‚Her Perfect Sky‘ is Adrian Schweizer‘s favourite and was featured in the recent and highly anticipated Cercle set we played right in the French Alps. It did fit perfectly to the surrounding and we really had the perfect sky that day.

Next up is ‚White Atlas‘ which reminds us a bit of the minimal era. There have been a few tracks back then which had enormous depth and warmth and this one goes a bit into this direction, with a catchy but darkish melody.

‚Distant Borders‘ marks the perfect finish for us, a nicely moody track that doesn’t try to steal the show but works in its own way.

Two of the most earnest techno acts in the scene, ARTBAT links up with Matador and his RUKUS imprint for their debut collaboration 'Apollo 11' - a direct and out of this world two-tracker named after the first successful moon landing.

The Kiev-based duo and the Irish DJ-producer have handed the title-track over to Mixmag ahead of the record's release on March 15. With its driving rhythmic elements, vigorous pads and lively arpeggiator breakdown, 'Apollo 11' is a tune that has gotten nothing but an ebullient reaction from dancefloors all around the globe.

The glacial might of Iceland's natural setting offers some of the most stunning views in the world, and a similar sense of broad wonder runs deep through the country's inclination for atmospheric dub techno. 

Icelandic artists @ohm-599575574 and @octalindustries both now live abroad, in Copenhagen and Tallinn respectively, but still regularly collaborate and merge the influence of their homeland and adopted cities into breathtaking textural techno excursions, like 'Adaptor' from their new EP on @andrey-pushkarev's @luckofaccess.

Detroit techno king Robert Hood returns to his infamous M-Plant imprint with a no-nonsense two-tracker that sees the dance music powerhouse gracefully descending away from his gospel tenors and into his full-blown minimal techno mode. 

Titled 'Reflector / Rotate’, the visionary DJ-producer has been kind enough to lend Mixmag the release's b-side, 'Rotate' - a subtle and atmospheric techno jam with muted tones that casts deep shadows across the dancefloor before leaving revellers stunned and slipping into the void without warning.
