Hotflush unveils its second release of 2015 in the form of a collaborative single between label mainstay Locked Groove and ascendant Italian duo Mind Against.

With both acts coming off the back of triumphant finishes to 2014 - the success of Locked Groove's huge Enigma EP and Mind Against's surge into #33 position in Resident Advisor's 2014 DJ poll - 'Elysium / Pulsar' marks the first time the producers have collaborated. The end result combines Locked Groove's punchy, dancefloor-ready aesthestic and the emotionally resonant melodics that Mind Against have made their signature since breaking through with Life And Death in 2013.

A small taste of Above & Beyond's forthcoming album 'Acoustic II'. The trio will perform with a full band at some of the world's most iconic venues including London's Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House and LA's Hollywood Bowl. 

Above & Beyond are a phenomenon unlike any other in dance music. Grammy-nominated songwriters, they are the only British dance act to sell out Madison Square Garden as DJs, and yet are about to take an 18-piece band set up on a sold out tour of the world's most iconic concert halls: including London's Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House and Hollywood Bowl to name just three. 

A show described by Billboard as “one of the finest in dance music history”, the tour - and accompanying Acoustic II studio album - represents yet another against-the-odds landmark in the unique story of Above & Beyond. Venues that normally take years of hard touring to reach are sold out on only the band's second acoustic tour - you are left wondering: just how do they do it? 

The secret is in the songs. Sung back at them by thousands at their celebratory DJ sets, Above & Beyond's tales of life, love and loss have soundtracked weddings, proposals, hikes up Everest, marathons and funerals - stories which are tweeted and emailed in to A&B HQ each week. The lyrics have been plastered on festival signs, provided solace for fans in hard times and have been tattooed with pride by thousands of fans. 

Following last year's critically acclaimed electronic album, “We Are All We Need”, Above & Beyond Acoustic II revisits several of the best loved songs from that album and as well as classics from Above & Beyond’s wide back catalogue and reworks them for concert halls rather than clubs; breathing new life and context into them.

Under the supervision of musical director Bob Bradley, the legendary trio have reworked a total of 13 tracks into rich, string-laden band arrangements that reference Portishead, Angelo Badalamenti and movie soundtracks with a uniquely Above & Beyond idiosyncrasy. 

Reaching back into their individual musical histories, each member of Above & Beyond performs different parts of the arrangements, including Jono on Rhodes, Tony on guitar and vocals, and Paavo on grand piano. Celebrated A&B collaborator Zoë Johnston sings on re-imagined dancefloor anthems like “We're All We Need” and “Alchemy”, and is joined by a host of other contributing vocalists from Above & Beyond's past and present. Completing the ensemble, string quartets and percussion sections provide a big room feel of a completely different kind.

Do you believe in conincidences?

I don’t - anymore. I used to believe in conincidences but I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason. And that everything in life happens for you, not to you.

So, I have been busying myself with the idea of an remix album of classic tracks of mine for quite some time. But I struggled with the selection of tracks and which remix artist to pair with which track.  Until certain people entered my life. Some of them I only „met“ through their music on social media and never in person, others I met briefly, like in a car to a festival and some I started to hang out with and they became real life friends. All of these people connect with my music and I feel drawn to their music and in many ways we insprire each other.  As a natural result this remix EP took shape and I am excited to present it to you. The record contains four remixes of tracks from my back catalogue that cover a period of 20 (!) years, from my early days on Bush in the mid 90s to my first label Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten in the 00`s up until now, where I run Electric Ballroom from Berlin. Stephan Hinz returns to Second State once again, painting the canvas of silence with his masterstroke of imposing drums and vicious hooks. 'Venom' is Hinz' latest offering and comprises four incredibly massive tunes which perfectly showcase his evolving sound of Techno's best in peak time pandemonium. 
The title track 'Venom' kicks off the EP with a devilish throbbing groove while mischievous organ stabs rise and fall generating an impeccable balance between tough and playful. 'Primal' follows up with a more devious style where relentless percussion and sinister synth stabs culminate into absolute debauchery. Switching gears, 'Out Of It’ shows Stephan twisting the track's elements into a grooving, up-beat tool with a contagious faction of ingredients that transform into a sublime trip suitable for a million situations. 
Clinching the EP is a venture into the ethereal: the aptly titled 'Shadowselves' takes a journey into the dramatic world of villainous sonics and surging tones creating a labyrinth of dense atmospherics before winding into a grand crescendo.
