Music pieces by Russian duo The Cruising(Yula Vovk and Sergei Demidov) are not that easy to identify, both style and time-wise. Funky vibes of the 1970s and 1980s are generously mixed with techno and peppered with unconventional live instruments, vocals, and flirting with rock and roll. Throw in ambitions of new genre creators, and you get a fantastic creature, a techno-funky-rock unicorn.  The“Wise And Weird” EP features four of the duo’s original versions ranging from groovy indie dance to funky techno to acid house. Nottingham dons Coyote(Is It Balearic?) turn in a lovely laid back tripped out remix from deep within their Balearic realm.

DJ, live artist, and producer Sturge, originally from Belfast, is now based in Ibiza after spending over a decade in London. He has been DJing and promoting electronic music parties across Europe and beyond for many years, from Belfast to Burning Man, and London to Berlin. As one of the curators for the Celtic Chaos stage at the Burn, he takes equal pride in his curation as much as in his DJ sets.
 
Sturge’s first mainstream release was 'What Were The Skies Like When You Were Young', on Musique de Lune in summer 2024. This stunning 5-track EP, featuring the lead track and four remixes, went straight into the Beatport Top 10.
 
Press play on 'Wanted To Fly' and you are instantly taken to a crisp, clear soundscape high in the sky. The bassline captures your imagination straight away, like a warm valve glowing against the metronomic kick beat. The scale here is cinematic, the space between the notes as important as the notes themselves. From here, Sturge builds the intensity, huge synth raptors cry overhead as you climb into a stratosphere where electric and organic sounds blur into one, layers of subtle synth adding to the already palpable atmosphere. And then the first lyric. “I just wanted to fly.’ Just beautiful stuff.

Throw in ambitions of new genre creators, and you get a fantastic creature, a techno-funky-rock Unicorn. Before coming together as co-producers of the musical project The Cruising(Yula Vovk and Sergei Demidov) were already well-known and respected in the electronic and funk music communities for their work both as musicians and DJs. After the release of their critically-acclaimed EP, “Talking Good,” on the Brazilian label, Mister Mistery and remix release on Om Records, the musical pair decided to push ahead with the development of their unique style. In 2012, they started their own label Kraswa Records. The Cruising has a penchant for effectively combining live guitar riffs with the sweet beats of an analog drum machine. At other times the group makes great use of the most unexpected of instruments - notably the harmonica and the xylophone - in harmony with the sounds of legendary synthesizers like the Roland Alpha Juno and DX7, Sequential Circuits, TG 77, and Moog Rogue. The musical project, The Cruising, is made up of a pair of people who love each other, love music, and love to travel. They pour all of their emotion and experiences into what they call “home sweet home music production” – a place where one lives by the mantra of Just Сruise and Hang Out!
