Fun projects need to be shared. In this case I like to give away my newest fun project - I did in my free time. Hashtag is a combination of five elements in one track. With the focus on a snare drum roll, a upward pitching part, a melody, a fat baseline and acid elements. Acid in that case means, crazy sounds in a groovy beat. Hope you like it - have fun.

A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration.

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint.

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

Hailing from Spain, we are pleased to welcome Ramiro Lopez to take the reigns for our next release. The in-form producer has already released music on the likes of Bedrock, Intec, Suara and Diymanic in a relatively short space of time and garnered major support from Adam Beyer, Carl Cox and Monika Kruse. Coming out on 15th May, his ‘Pretending’ release comprises of 4 tracks that have been a mainstay of Adam Beyer’s sets during the latter part of 2016 and now full force in to 2017. 

The release opens with ‘September’; Atmospheric to its very core, the crunching drums and low end rumbles make this one a sure fire weapon of choice. Next we jump into ‘Loving You’ with a haunting vocal that compliments the stripped back yet refined approach of this track. ‘Come Closer’ featuring Juliet Fox is a dark, rumbling number that screams building percussion that lends itself to become a peak time choice, whether it’s a club or festival. The release closes with ‘Pretending feat. KnowKontrol’; An 8-minute piece of work that is destined for unadulterated dancefloor destruction, whilst maintaining that melodic element that Ramiro Lopez is fast making his signature style.

Boris Brejcha - Space Diver

Making his debut on Drumcode in 2017 with his track ‘Fake’ featured on the A-Sides Vol 6 compilation, one of Brazil’s much loved exports Wehbba brings us his first full EP this February with ‘Eclipse’.

A no nonsense 4 track offering, and all thoroughly road tested by Adam, they have gained much support from longtime Drumcode fans. Eclipse, delivers a low end rumble along with a modulating synth line. Reigning high throughout the track, is the undeniably catchy and unique synth. Leaving this track one to be recognised on dancefloors all over the world.

‘Protocol’ doesn't turn down the pace, straight into a chugging hypnotic drive, this track leaks with attitude, along it’s eerie undertones.

Probably the most acid influenced track of the EP, ‘Glasswerk’ has a futuristic modular synth riff which thunders along a hypnotic bass line which flows nicely into ‘Framework’ to close out the EP. Its punchy and powerful kick sits alongside the cleverly crafted synth pattern, taking this track into a dark zone with a groovy element still resonant.

Radio Slave’s momentous ‘Another Club’ receives two thumping remixes from SRVD and Charlotte de Witte.

‘Another Club’ was the 100th release on Rekids and dropped as the label celebrated a milestone ten years. It unquestionably became one of Techno’s biggest tracks ever made. Two years later, the landmark production receives outstanding remixes from two of the genre’s most salient artists: NovaMute producer Charlotte de Witte, who’s just collaborated with Chris Liebing on her newly launched KNTXT imprint, as well as the ever-impressive Patrick Mason and Radio Slave who team up again as SRVD.

Charlotte de Witte’s remix of ‘Another Club’ marches forward with pounding 909 style kicks, hooking acid hits, fleeting voice samples and haunting pads. SRVD’s remix then uses the vocals as stabs, adding tension with rave inspired synths, buzzing keys and splashing cymbals, while locking it all together with thundering drums and sub frequency rumbles.

Fitzpatrick has enlisted some of techno's finest over the years with a release catalogue which includes works from Avision, Skream, Huxley, Eli Brown, CamelPhat and Sasha. As the label approaches it's 50th release, Alan celebrates sell out showcases across the globe, including The Warehouse Project Manchester, Fabric London, SWG3 Glasgow, Shine Belfast and their annual residency in Watergate, Berlin. For their 50th release, We Are The Brave offer us a massive six tracker, with three originals from the boss and some heavy remixes from Brennen Grey, Mark Broom and SAMA. 
 
Opening with title track 'I Still Remember' Fitzpatrick reels us in with his dystopic drums and ominous spoken word sample. Alan incorporates acid stabs and dark pads, creating at emotive yet eerie atmosphere. Remixing this is German producer Brennen Grey, known for his high pace, high energy sets - he's lit up the US scene playing EDC Vegas and Movement. His version of the original takes it to a darker place, with skippy percussion and an original vox.

The name doesn't give anything away here as Alan's original 'Buttered Otter' keeps the EP on a similar vibe with its deep, relentless pulsating drum. Fitzpatrick recruit's techno legend Mark Broom for this remix, with a stripped back feel which mirrors the original perfectly.

Finally, 'Emergency' drops a tribal beat and stomps with us all night long, and its spacey UR pads and sonics give it dreamy qualities in the break. SAMA drives in some swirling pads and a solid low end increasing the intensity. He manages to create warmth and an analogue vibe throughout - perfectly done!
