This album aims to bring back the soulful sounds of the past while maintaining a bass-heavy modern feel. I'm especially happy with two tracks on the album which feature my friend Willdabeast (of Snug Harbour and Michal Menert Big Band). Will laid down some soulful horns, flute and a few other instruments to take my sample-based beats to the next level. Hip hop has always been my first love as far as producing. The Vinyl Restoration series is the embodiment of that, as well as my escape from electronic music in general. I have a very simplistic approach for making the beats trying to take it back to the days of all vinyl sampling, swingy drums, and knocking snares. The next remix is by San Francisco’s Warp9, who has dropped the bass and funked up the track in a heavy way. EDX Kicks Off 2016 With New Deep House Anthem, "Missing"
 
After a tremendous 2015 that was punctuated with being named the #1 charting Beatport artist of the year over international heavyweights like Tiesto and Maceo Plex, EDX is kicking off 2016 on a high note with his first original of the year, “Missing” featuring Mingue, which is out now on Spotify, and due out on Beatport on February 12th via Spinnin’ Deep. 
On “Missing,” EDX tabs the up-and-coming songstress, Mingue, for a modern-day performance of Everything but the Girl’s record of the same name, while infusing the track with his signature deep house sound. The track opens with a curtain of shimmering piano melodies that is peeled back to reveal a chunky beat, catchy hook, and soft, thudding bass stabs that give “Missing” a deep groove.

Its still electronic based, but with more singing and more guitars and other lush stuff.

Today So-Gnar and Michal Menert unveil his first beat tape, Rust, marking the beginning of a series in collaboration with the Antimatter crew. This mixtape is a deconstructed and raw look into the birthplace of many of other full length tracks. This collection of forgotten beats seamlessly flows from beginning to end, although never originally intended as a long playing release. A representation of moments, Rust reflects on a past that seems more golden than it was.

Working on these creations between 2002 and 2006, parallel to when Menert was collaborating with Derek Vincent Smith on the multi-dimensional, Taking Up Your Precious Time, these stereo mixdowns were simply lost in the shuffle. Beats that Menert loved and continued to stumble upon for the past several years, Rust, is was compiled as a gift to his loyal fans prior to the debut of his long awaited second solo LP, Even If It Isn’t Right, slated for release on April 24th.

Sprinkled with smooth guitar riffs, sultry percussion, and velvety horns you’ll quickly pick-up on Menert’s signature style, fusing old world sounds with modern variations. Classic samples and contemporary beats exemplify why Michal’s style is so unique and sought after. Tune in, chill out and soak up the next 43 minutes of auditory exploration.
