West Country born/London-based producer Rockwell returns with his latest single “RECOGNISE” - an ethereal and melancholy vocal-led single that references much of his guitar-based musical influences and tastes outside of electronic music. Hot on the heels of his highly anticipated return at the end of last year with the harmonic “Estranged” featuring LaMeduza and the explosive socio-political battle cry “Peak” featuring Lewisham born and bred MC Novelist that was Charlie Tee’s “D&B Drop of the Week” on BBC Radio 1 and supported by Mixmag, DJ Mag, Complex, Trench, Clash and more, this latest single is the latest in a series of singles from the producer expected to drop over the next few months.

"Borne of my musical influences & much guitar pedal experimentation, the musical phrases­ of ‘Recognize’ were one of the first musical elements that I created for this project. I wanted to create something that was tender and melancholy but abrasive in timbre – something to contrast against the pristine uplifting and soulful traits that dominate the more musical styles of drum and bass. Valentina really helped to take the track to the next level, and I adore the contrast of her ethereal vocals against the rough edges of the instrumental."

Over recent years, Critical Music’s talent-incubating ‘Binary’ series has given some of D&B’s most promising new artists a platform to showcase their fledgling skills and future potential.

For its twenty-seventh instalment, Bristol-based DJ and producer Spectral joins the likes of Particle, VISLA and EN:VY by offering up her own debut four-track EP of moody, deep drum & bass that confidently holds its own amongst a powerful set of peers.

From the dark soul of opening track ‘Crazy’, to the full-throttle dance floor pressure of ‘Submerge’, the brain-tapping near-techno of ‘Void’ and the strangely beautiful, epically scaled 'Ikigai' - Spectral’s musical mandate falls neatly within the wider Critical sound.

Spectral was selected back in 2020 from the EQ50 program - which aims to address gender inequality in drum & bass by providing mentorship opportunities with the genre’s most respected labels. Her inaugural outing for Critical suggests that she's ready to help do just that.
