Maxime Temam, largely better known as a cornerstone of the Paris scene, proprietor of the Studio Drum & Bass channel, and bad boy producer under his surname, has teamed up with the talented duo that is none other than In:Most. Fresh from dropping their first album ‘Voyager’ back in April - Josh Croft and Bailey Greer return with a gloriously crisp meeting of minds in the form of ‘1’s n 2’s’. 

The dusty needled intro is reminiscent of a thriller movie soundtrack, rippling with tension and suspense, while the calculated vocal sample counts in the drop - ushering in lurching, twisted bass. These varying low-end patterns and snappy drums lay the foundation for what is a gully stepper through and through, with a smattering of a splashy jungle amen breaks for good measure.

The B-side comes in the form of Ben Rolo’s competition winning remix of ‘Pieces’ featuring Dale May, taken from the 5 Years of Soulvent album, released in February 2019. This slice of feel-good liquid is a more rolling take on the original, with high energy drums, twinkling arpeggios and a surging bassline; all building on the dreamy guitar plucks and inquisitive vocals that made it so popular first time around.

We encourage you to get to stepping and give this 2-track single a spin, landing in all good stores on Friday the 13th of November.

Last time we heard from Bristol producer Conducta was around the release of "City Breeze"—a floaty R&B-meets-garage jam from August last year. This time, on new single "Felt This Way", he's teamed up with fellow Bristolian Notion for another bass-heavy affair. "Felt This Way" still features some silky R&B vocals, but the star of the show is that molten lava bassline! It's no wonder both producers have been getting so much attention lately. With basslines like this and a learned appreciation for R&B vocals, these two will definitely be making some big moves this year. Watch this space.

Next up on Bristol’s Born On Road Records comes a three-way collaboration of epic proportions. Having impressed with his outstanding label debut, the Hand Sign EP, earlier this month, Gillingham native DJ Gaw swiftly returns to the imprint, teaming up with long-standing Born On Road affiliate Selecta J-Man – who topped the Juno Download singles chart in July with “My Style” – for the infectious “Rum & Lime”. The pair are joined on the track by Bristolian drum and bass soulstress A Little Sound, the 21-year-old singer and TikTok sensation whose recent collaboration with Kanine, “Back in Time”, has already amassed over two million streams. 

Originally kept under lock and key as a dubplate special but now seeing a release due to great demand, “Rum & Lime” finds A Little Sound heavily interpolating Lily Allen’s world-renowned 2006 debut “Smile”, retaining Allen’s melodies but rewriting the lyrics with a summery and suitably rave-centric twist. Mostly staying true to the original track’s rocksteady sound, Gaw and J-Man intersperse the iconic ska strokes with stonking jump-up drops to make for a festival- ready anthem, bound to serve as the perfect soundtrack to this summer’s outdoor gatherings. 

Having teased the track via both TikTok and the label’s Goat Shed radio takeover last month, initial fan reactions certainly bode well for the future of this track. Expect to hear much more of it in the coming months, and keep an eye out for plenty more releases from the Born On Road family later this year.
